COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in memory of my Grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth), this tart German-style Berliner Weisse is as authentic as it gets. We used lactobacillus and a hint of brettanomyces to sour this very unusual, low gravity wheat beer. To cut the tartness for those with sweeter tastes, raspberry or woodruff syrup is a traditional way to sweeten the beer. Almost an extinct style, we hope to help revive the Berliner Weisse in memory of two great people (ABV 3.1%, IBU 2, SRM 2, Format 30L kegs).

From bottle. Sour funky nose, lactic with horse blanket. Fruity, wheaty, tart. Light hint of oxidation. Light straw with some haze, topped with soda-like white head. Medium-light body with medium carbonation. Starts tart and lactic with wheat. Mild bitter quality but overall very tart and crisp. Not much oak, like a lambic, but a nice tart lactic profile. Tasty, with clean after.

First off, I’m averaging this out from my first review via notes in 2010. This beer was seemingly way different then. Not sure what happened. Now this pours a clear yellow with big white head. Aroma was baby diaper and some funk. Taste is a very acidic lemon pledge with some hay and straw. This was a bottle so hopefully this gets better on tap.

Inleder tung provning. Härligt fräs i skummet, som är kortvarigt. Halmgul och disig. Stickig doft med ton av jäst. Belgiska saison vibbar. Syrlig och härlig. Läskande. Balanserad och samtidigt bäldigt tunn. Tydlig smak av mogen citron.

Bottle at share at the Syb Pig in Boca Raton. Thanks Edgar! Small snifter pour of a hazy, almost milky yellow with a one finger pillow head. Some nice lacing. Aroma of citrus especially lemon, brett, lemon-cello, bread and cereal. The taste was not overly sour or tart, but just right with the lemons coming to life. As it warmed more lemons appeared. I didn’t use any woodruff on this one. The Citric acid wasn’t too harsh and the brett/lacto was in check nicely. Nice clean finish, easy to drink. Overall another good one from The Bruery.

pours cloudy pale yellow with a small white head, some retention and lacing. wheat, cheese, tart and sharp lemons, hint of tropical fruitiness, powdery citric acid, white grapes, meaty. lively carbonation, light body - surprisingly not watery, sharp (not overdone nor overly acetic) acidic and grassy-spicy-citrusy finish. excellent berliner. tasty. probably the best i’ve tried yet!

Bottle (750 ml). From Sammy, thanks! Hazy yellow with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is mostly citric and lemony along with a nice touch of acidity from the wheat, brettanomyces and light fruity notes. Taste is slightly sweet, but mostly citric/lemony again and tart with wheat acidity and brettanomyces. Light body. Low carbonation. Citric and dry finish. Extremely tasty for a 3.1% abv beer. Easily drinkable and quite refreshing. Really good!

Bottle 750ml. Pours blond/whitish with low white head. Some lacing. Aroma is of fruits, wheat, lemon. Taste is of acidity, sourness, lemons. Palate: Medium carbonation. Light body. Refreshing. Mouth watering. Overall: Decent sour beer. Lemony. Seems well executed, but i’m not sure i’m a big fan of this type o’ beer.

Poured from a 22oz bomber. Aroma is lemon, funk , and wheat. Flavors are zesty lemon, tart funk, and wheat. Great Berliner wiesse, super flavorful and refreshing. The bruery can do no wrong with tarts and sours.

Cloudy yellow with a fleeting quilt of bone whites, but the end of the bottle it looks pretty ugly. Nose of lemons, some grain, some lacto - nice clean nose for the style with just a hint of earth. Flavor is tart, some water, some grain and lemons. Nice flavor. Medium on thin with low carb and a dry finish. Decent beer.

If I could get more of this in Maryland, I would give up water and replace it with this. Perfectly done and the best Berliner Weisse I’ve ever had.

750 bottle from The Bruery. Pours a pale hazy straw color, small head that disappeared. Mild tart lemon nose with traces of Brett. Moderate Granny Smith Apple mixed with lemon flavors, lite tartness, some acidity. Dry and tart.
