Draft. Pours brown with a thin beige head. Light roasty aroma with molasses and light floral hops. The flavor is well balanced, with lightly roasted malts, toast, molasses, floral hops, toffee, and lighter woody and smokey notes. Good stuff.

Most of the Bruery’s beers taste like Glade essence that is distilled, poured into a stemmed glass, and then served chilled. This little ditty is a little bit more earthy and lacking in floral tones. It’s not going to be top billed on any beer festival, but it does have a potent smokiness that permeates around your senses. A welcomed addition to the resume of these brewers.

bottle... medium brown with a watery tan head... smells like maple smoke, the smoke is light, but decent, wish it was stronger... the taste is a bit of a mess, smoked lager with a dark fruit backbone and some maple... ok

Bottle. One of the few truly disappointing ales from the Bruery. I won’t go into long details because everything I would have to say is unflattering.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 boFNjackson (3629) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 8, 2011
Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... What a treat! Poured dark brownish/red with a tan head. Smokey tones with maple characters, apples, oak, and belgian-like yeast tones. Slightly tart, heavy with some oak and booziness. What an incredible complex beer and wonderfully pleasing.

Big smoky nose, mesquite? Syrup comes out more once swirled. The unapologetic combination of sweet and smoky comes across like great barbecue. Chewy with an earthy finish.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 markwise (3833) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 5, 2011
Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours brown with a tan head that leaves big Belgian lace. Nose is smoke, slight earthy sweetness, smoked malts, hints of vanilla, hints of peat, and some booze. Flavor is smoked malts, peat, earth, light maple, band-aid esque smoke, some dark sweetness, and booze. Light in body for the style. The maple and smoked malts come through with an earthiness and a vague sweetness.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Thorpe429 (4945) - , Illinois, USA - AUG 4, 2011
Bottle shared by bmanning. Served in a Bruery tulip.
Pours a dark chestnut brown with a good off-white to tan head with a few spots of lacing on the way down and a thin collar throughout. The nose carries some tobacco initially and is eventually followed up with some oak, light maple, and a bit of smoked malt. Flavor picks up a lot of the smoke along with some maple in the background and has a general earthy feeling. Medium body with a dry, smokey finish. Good carbonation. Worth a try, but not as good as I was expecting.

750ml bottle courtesy of 46er3498. thanks, tom! pours a deep, dark, chestnut brown with a thick, creamy, khaki head with excellent retention that leaves smooth sheets of lace on the glass. aroma is great with big notes of smoked malt, ashy charcoal, and campfire smoke backed by subtle notes of maple syrup, burnt waffles, roasted almonds, and oak with subtle notes of toasted rye, vanilla, figs. flavor is superb as well and offers a great balance of smoked malts, cigar ash, and charred oak with sweet maple syrup, brown sugar, and brandied figs with subtle notes of caraway seeds, cocoa, and vanilla as it warms. palate is full bodied with smooth carbonation and a lingering, smokey but sweet finish. overall, a great collaboration brew.
