We take Mash, and then add Portola Coffee Lab’s Lucio Delgado (Columbia) at a rate of 1 lbs. per 10 gallons. This has contributed an intense coffee aroma and some additional body, with flavors of raspberry jam, tart pineapple and maple brown sugar. Why did we release two versions of this beer, one with coffee, one without? Mash & Grind is certainly delicious on its own, but we deliberately sought a strong coffee aroma and flavor so you could try your own blending, if you like. Try adding "Mash & Grind" to "Mash" (or the other way around) until you find your ideal blend. Of course opening two bottles of high ABV beer is recommended when among friends.

Bottle: The aroma consists of coffee, toffee, fruit, and a touch of vanilla. It pours a cloudy orangish-brown with a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with a caramel, chocolate, and a hint of fruit. The finish has a ton of coffee, roasted nuts, vanilla, and a touch of bourbon. It’s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, I would have expected I would like the coffee version better. This is very good, but I like regular Mash slightly better.

750 ml bottle. Aroma is very nice and fairly coffee forward. Nice background make note of caramel, toffee and toasted bread with a hint of chocolate. Hints of alcohol. Coffee ads a nice fruitiness and hints of nuts. Pours a murky brown with some burnt amber notes and a somewhat thin, tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges. No lacing and alcohol sheets instead of legs. Flavor is moderately coffee forward with some nice fruity and nut notes. Moderate caramel and toffee with a nice light sweetness. Faint toasted bread and chocolate. Light bourbon notes that become more prevalent as it warms with faint oak. Alcohol also becomes more noticeable as it warms. Hints of dark fruit. Finish is coffee, caramel and toasted bread with some bourbon - the breakfast of champions. Medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Not as silky as its regular version. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, this may be my favorite Bruery beer of 2013. The coffee works really well with the base beer and the sweet malt character. Bourbon compliments nicely. Difficult to tell the base was Mash as the coffee really changes the beer.

2013 batch. Ruby brown pour with off white head. Nose is coffee, bell pepper, vegetile, dark fruits, plum, cookie dough, bourbon. Flavor is faded coffee, booze, dark fruit, still a bit hot, vanilla. Dry and warm finish. Coffee has started to turn a bit off on this guy.

75cl, Vintage 2013, new exclusive American brew, with coffee, thx alot to Secret Santa!, complex brew, malty/alcoholic/woody and slightly roasted/fruity, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, small head, good brew, yet very expensive!

Looks about the same as Mash, possibly with a tad less sticky lace. Even after a year, the coffee remains fresh and bold -- nary a green pepper in smell or sight. Coffee augments the caramely base rather than overpowering it. Good stuff.

This one poured a murky brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of coffee, lots of green peppers and cramel. Falvor was booze, green pepper and cofee. Very stale and unappealing.

Bottle. Pours a murky, rust colored brown with a slight tan collared head. The coffee hits the nose first followed by the woody caramel note. Medium mouthfeel. Coffee, toffee, caramel, bitter hop/coffee notes. It’s decent but nothing I’d keep going back for again and again. Once is good.

Bottle shared thanks to beerman6686. Pours a murky brown with a slight beige head. Aroma is a big green pepper coffee aroma when cold but the green pepper fades a bit as it warms. Some caramel in the aroma too. Taste is definitely sweet with a slight bitter finish. Interested in trying Mash alone.

750ml bottle. Poured a deep and cloudy amber color (almost a brownish) and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of coffee grounds, caramel, fruity, wood, and earth. Tastes of vanilla, caramel, brown sugary sweetness, coffee, and citrus. More coffee in the aroma vs. the tastes with the alcohol overall well hidden.

Bottle. Pour is clear brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and light espresso notes. A hint of bitter chocolate and herbs as well. Flavor is caramel malt, herbal coffee notes, and light bitter coffee. Very green and vegetal. Hides alcohol well. Strange flavor.
