We take Mash, and then add Portola Coffee Lab’s Lucio Delgado (Columbia) at a rate of 1 lbs. per 10 gallons. This has contributed an intense coffee aroma and some additional body, with flavors of raspberry jam, tart pineapple and maple brown sugar. Why did we release two versions of this beer, one with coffee, one without? Mash & Grind is certainly delicious on its own, but we deliberately sought a strong coffee aroma and flavor so you could try your own blending, if you like. Try adding "Mash & Grind" to "Mash" (or the other way around) until you find your ideal blend. Of course opening two bottles of high ABV beer is recommended when among friends.

Cloudy rusty brown with virtually no head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, hint of green pepper. Medium-full bodied, lightly sweet on the palate with a complex finish. Taste is coffee, dates, toasted nuts. Yum.

750ml bottle pour, 2014 vintage courtesy of JPDurden24, exhibits a copper to amber body that supports a thin off white head. The aroma offers up molasses nuanced pine hops, muted sweetened coffee and booze. The taste delivers smooth molasses and sweet malts with a bit of pine off in the background. To midway a mild coffee note comes to the surface. It seems maybe the coffee has rolled off some. Pretty nice yet a little rough and boozy.

Bottle shared by random nice guy at Borefts Beer Festival 2015. Pours a murky dark brown with a small, off white head. Aroma has coffee, bourbon, caramel, sweet malts, vanilla, ice coffee, slight roast. Taste is sweet, boozy, bourbon. Huge coffee with a roasty bitterness. Slight chocolate, toffee, sweet, dark fruits. Low carb and a sticky body.

Red oak color with a thin but lasting head. Caramel and coffee aroma is really enticing. Alcohol presence does not distract from the warm coffee flavors and sweet caramel body. Thing I like is this beer does not have the astringency associated with many coffee beers. Still very strong.

Reddish brown color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee vanilla, caramel, maple, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste of vanilla beans, coffee, caramel, dark fruits, roasted malts, dark fruits, and alcohol in the finish.

Pours thick and dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is incredible with chocolate, coffee, toffee, and sweet fruity malts. Flavor brings the coffee with some tea notes, smooth bourbon spice from the barrel, and a sweet malty ending.

Bottle shared @ Borefts 2015. Pours dark brown with a small white head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, coffee, malt, burned wood. Taste is malty, licorice, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, cold brew coffee, chocolate, light hops.

bottle shared by dennis at borefts 15. poured a dark amber colour with a tanned head. nose of coffee, and dark caramel malts, oak, vanilla and bourbon, dark fruits, figs, brown sugar, quite some alcohol burn, the coffee works verry well in this barley wine, enjoyable
