3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. 2014 edition at 13.7% ABV. Dark brown with two fingers of light tan head. Aromas of caramel, coffee, bourbon, toasty notes, light oak. Tastes of caramel, sweet roasty coffee, bourbon, brown sugar. Medium body with a dry finish. No alcohol on the finish. Pretty well masked alcohol for 13.7%. Seems like there might be a hint of infection but hard to say, not enough to detract though.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Almost no head; dark brown, reddish hightlighted beer. Pure cold coffee nose, beer remaining hidden for some time. Cold coffee, sharpened with alcohol. Sharp, hot, astringent. For an utter coffee abstainer as me, unpalatable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of coffee and brown sugar. The flavor is more coffee beer than barleywine, with a lot of coffee coming through up front. However, you can also taste the base beer with some toffee, caramel , oak and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I havenít looked at my old rating and havenít had regular Mash in a while, but I seem to like this one better than the base beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2015 750 mL bottle shared with ebone1988. 2015 vintage. This one is very similar to the 2013, but itís thicker, more viscous. The coffee is much more prevalent when itís fresh. Lots of brown sugar in the flavor, and a good hop as well. Way better than with age.

2013 vintage. The pour is a medium brown with a lighter tan/off white head that seems rather fizzy. It falls down to a tiny ring rather quickly and leaves no lace. The aroma is dominated by coffee. In fact, thatís all I smell. There might be a hint of caramel on the back end, but thatís it. All coffee. The flavor is big coffee. There is a lot more happening here. Good toffee and some light dark fruits are solid around the coffee backbone. There is a solid booze presence on the back as well. The mouth feel is a bit light, and the carbonation doesnít really do a whole lot for it because itís light as well. The aftertaste is lingeringly coffee and bitter with a touch of booze. Not bad.

750ml. Pleasant coffee aroma. Smooth caramel bourbon notes. Coffee really works well here. Very drinkable for the ABV. Sugary, but still drinks clean. Brown sugar, coffee, bourbon. The bourbon is mild and restrained. Really good.

Bottle.Muddy maroon -- a melted burnt umber crayon. Half a finger of dense, Nesquik-colored head fizzles away slowly. Lots of milk chocolate in the nose. Vanilla, lots of toffee and spicy light roast coffee as well. Smooth. Coffee is more pronounced in the flavor. Tangy toffee settles into the sides of the tongue. Soft oak, a hint of green apple, a touch of vanilla. Smooth blend -- the coffee and vanilla make an interesting pair. Quite a bit of boozy warmth. Moderate prickles of carbonation in a medium body. Despite the alcohol content, itís fairly light on the tongue. Not too bitter. Much better than Mash, the coffee adds quite a bit to this brew and the blend is smoother. Very nice.

750 ml bottle. Date of 10/27/2014. Dark Amber color with bubbly head. Aroma is big on coffee with mild level bourbon with a mild amount of oak. The flavor is bourbon forward without the alcohol or massive warming after the sip. The main base is toffee and caramel. I wish I would have tried just the Mash base first but I am always hesitant to let any coffee brews sit so I decide to open this now. I got to say just enough coffee-bourbon - toffee balance. I really enjoyed sipping. Much more manageable when the brew is under 13%!!!
