We take Mash, and then add Portola Coffee Lab’s Lucio Delgado (Columbia) at a rate of 1 lbs. per 10 gallons. This has contributed an intense coffee aroma and some additional body, with flavors of raspberry jam, tart pineapple and maple brown sugar. Why did we release two versions of this beer, one with coffee, one without? Mash & Grind is certainly delicious on its own, but we deliberately sought a strong coffee aroma and flavor so you could try your own blending, if you like. Try adding "Mash & Grind" to "Mash" (or the other way around) until you find your ideal blend. Of course opening two bottles of high ABV beer is recommended when among friends.

Backlogged rating, Bottle Share: Great coffee and roast tones countered by bready and chocolate maltiness. Some citric and jammy fruit undertones along with a touch of molasses. For the ABV it was pretty drinkable however pretty sticky for a coffee imbued brew. Nice to try once, likely would not seek it out again.

750 mL bottle shared with ebone1988. 2013 vintage. The pour is a medium brown with a lighter tan/off white head that seems rather fizzy. It falls down to a tiny ring rather quickly and leaves no lace. The aroma is dominated by coffee. In fact, that's all I smell. There might be a hint of caramel on the back end, but that's it. All coffee. The flavor is big coffee. There is a lot more happening here. Good toffee and some light dark fruits are solid around the coffee backbone. There is a solid booze presence on the back as well. The mouth feel is a bit light, and the carbonation doesn't really do a whole lot for it because it's light as well. The aftertaste is lingeringly coffee and bitter with a touch of booze. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 09/11/2013. Pours deep mahogany, light off-white head fades to the surface, soapy ring of lacing. Aroma is thick coffee, hazelnut cream vanilla and golden caramel, chicory, spicy bourbon. Taste is sweet creamy caramel toffee, vanilla coffee, mild underlying roast, lingering sweet bourbon. Thick body, yet a bit watery for this style and compared to Mash. The nose is really nice, but taste and body can’t keep up- but, all in all decent.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, muddy brown with a khaki head. Aroma is coffee, vanilla, toffee, coconut. Taste is sweet. Vanilla and marshmallow notes really come through now. Full bodied and sticky. Good.

The (not so) shit beer tasting at Leightons stratospheric flat. Hazy deep red - amber beer. Big pale cream coloured head. Coconut nose. Palate is airy and light. Airy malt, little cream, light dried fruits, spice, earthy coffee. Light coconut and light fruity bourbon. The coffee really is not adding anything to the base beer here, in fact it is an unneccessary distraction. But overall still solid and very enjoyable.

Bootle. Nose full of chocolate and light coffee. Deep brown to black color. Minimal white head. Decent lacing. Taste is deep chocolate, not quite bitter with some light coffee. Really fantabulous. Pretty well balanced. Slight booze as it warms but overall a treat.

Bottle. Dark pour with some head. Rich chocolate, vanilla, toffee, and coffee aromas. Similar sweet flavors, with a bit of warmth, but not overbearing.
