An English Barleywine aged in Bourbon barrels, Mash is an intense yet balanced beer with notes of burnt caramel, toasted bread, ripe pear, dried figs, vanilla, toasted coconut and finishes with oak tannin. This has become an instant favorite around the brewery due to its balance, subtle complexities and overwhelming deliciousness.

It pours a brown with ruby hues and an off white head. The head is fairly pronounced and leaves a fair amount of lacing. It is fairly clear as it warms. It has an aroma that is highly malted and sweet with caramel, bread, and dark fruits. There are hints of citrus as well. It has flavors of citrus, molasses, caramel, bread, and a pronounced hop bitterness. There is a fair amount of alcohol warming that borders on hot.

Bottle from John’s Market. Pours a bright red mahogany color with a medium to small beige head. Huge sweet boozy malty nose. Heavy beer, dry at times and yeasty but overall very sweet, caramel, toffee, berries, boozy bourbon. Candied bourbon is just about right for this. Quite good though. Perfect for about 4 ounces. 750 ml will be a lot.

750 mL bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh (2015 Edition). Muddy brownish-orange pour with a frothy khaki head. Boozy aroma of vanilla, tangerine, bourbon, oak, coconut, and toffee. Incredible flavor of vanilla, apple, orange peel, figs, coconut, oak, and whiskey. Noticeable alcohol warming. An outstanding barley wine.

Bottle shared by "hannont". Colour...golden hued with a thin ecru head. Nose...eminently boozy and loaded with dried dates and golden figs. Palate...like so many Bruery beers, this is a diabetic coma in a glass! That said, this barleywine brims with dark, dried fruits, singed coconut, toasted oak, vanilla and Christmas cake. The finish is very long, boozy and filled with caramel and horehound drops.
