I ordered this up with trepidation. Stout and Flanders together conjures up a battle of different styles. This is a lovely beer. The bold malty stout complements the sour wonderfully. Sampled at the Bruery’s One year anniversary party.

Draught at The Bruery’s anniversary. Almost black, dark brown color with a small beige head. Sour fruit and mild chocolate aroma. The flavor starts moderately tart, giving way to a malty chocolate finish. Fizzy carbonation and a medium-full body. The flemish sourness starts things off well, but the transition to the sweeter, more malty stout doesn’t seem to flow very well. Not bad at all, but not seamless

Taster at the anniversary party. Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma is tart and roasty and actually pretty clean. Flavor is more of the same. A nice balanced sourness with some chocolate and roast in there, a little sweet however very refreshing. Medium bodied and smooth.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at the Anniversary party. This was pretty darn tasty, it had a nice tartness with a good malty backbone to smooth things out. I was super phsyched to be able to try this one.

Tap at Night of the Funk. Weird beer. This is supposed to be a blend between a Flemish Red and an Imperial Stout, yet it pours paler than either one. Still a beautiful pour, though, cloudy and peachy. Smells like Pork Lo Mein, candy, or sweet corn. Very odd. Taste is loaded with sweet corn, grains, unhoppy bitterness. Has a decent body though.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Not a happy marriage in my opinion. The only things that shined through for me were the stout bitterness and the lightness of the flemish red, making a funky, light, bitter beer.

Cask at brewery. Wonderful blend of their Russian Imperial Stout and Flemish Red. I liked the blend of the RIS with the Flemish Red. It took away some of the sweetness of the stout and was very smooth. Finished dry with a slight alcohol burn. Complex and wonderful.

On cask at the bruery. They were selling glasses of it for $5, so yes it was commercially available...
dark walnut brown pour, a very nice combo of the roasty/chocolatey of an imperial with the vinuous characteristics of a flemish red. complex up front, finished smooth.
