Bruery Description:
Mélange #1 was the first in our line of barrel aged beer blends and continues to be one of our favorites. A curious blend of our bourbon barrel aged stout, Black Tuesday, along with our Flemish-style sour red ale, Oude Tart, this beer is unique and delightful. Forging flavors of toasty oak, vanilla and toffee along with notes of leather and dark fruit, both the full bodied essence of the bourbon barrel aged ale and the sour quality of our wild ale are present in this well rounded beer.

En fût sur place: Noisettes, framboises, chocolat, pointe d’épices et bourbon emportés dans une chaleur évasive et envoutante. Un assemblage qui gagne en complexité après quelques minutes, j’ose imaginer avec les années.

On cask at the bruery. They were selling glasses of it for $5, so yes it was commercially available... dark walnut brown pour, a very nice combo of the roasty/chocolatey of an imperial with the vinuous characteristics of a flemish red. complex up front, finished smooth.

Cask at brewery. Wonderful blend of their Russian Imperial Stout and Flemish Red. I liked the blend of the RIS with the Flemish Red. It took away some of the sweetness of the stout and was very smooth. Finished dry with a slight alcohol burn. Complex and wonderful.

I ordered this up with trepidation. Stout and Flanders together conjures up a battle of different styles. This is a lovely beer. The bold malty stout complements the sour wonderfully. Sampled at the Bruery’s One year anniversary party.

Bottle courtesy of Dstructo. Murky brown pour with a small tan head. Sweet chocolate/fruity aromas. The taste is outstanding with chocolate, dark roasted malt, and tart cherry flavors. One hell of a blend....

(750ml bottle shared at Dak’s Final Four Tasting). Pours a hazy dark caramel with off-white head. Around is sour with cherries and chocolate. Taste follows suit with sweetness from Black Tuesday and sour from Oude Tart. Medium bodied with a slick texture. This is a super beer!

750 mL bottle; thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours a stout dark brown with reddish highlights and a white head. Nose is chocolate, cocoa, marshmallow, cherries, plums, dark earthy fruit and a very vague tartness. Flavor is uncanny: chocolate, cocoa, cherries, plums, and more sweetness. The alcohol content is vicious- 9.5% creeps up on one like the stealthiest of ninjas in a dark alley. Medium to full-bodied with lingering chocolate, balsamic, and cherry. Very enjoyable sipper.

Shared generously by Zack S. at Swamp Head. An interesting beer, much more heavily leaning towards the Oude Tart part of the blend than the BT part. Sour cherry notes with hints of chocolate stoutiness. Doesn’t pick up the sweetness from BT which is awesome. A really good beer.
