Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Oct 11, 2009 Yep, I too am in dept to THE tpd975 for this amazing treat. Out of the growler it poured deep amber with tan head. The aroma is big ole bold holy shit! yummy with sticky ripe smashed plums and dates to go along with the ripest dark cherries, oak, and oak dustiness and a bit of heat. Wow! The taste is thick and chewy to start with maple syrup goodness and oak moving quickly into aged dark fruit notes like stewed raisins, plums, figs, dates and dark red cherry fruit meat. It gets slick with sludgy sweet malts to midway as maple syrup and caramel take over into the finish. This is good. I hope they can make more. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Oct 5, 2009 Updated: Oct 12, 2009This is one bad mother of a beer. Thanks big time to tpd975 for sharing. Pours dark cola brown with an off-white head. Nose is bourbon, cola, sweet chocolate, spice, booze, dark fruit, molasses, cherries, booze, vanilla, wood, roast, perfection, magic, unicorn’s horn, and other ingredients of mythical proportions. Flavor is cherry, dark fruit, booze, roast mellowed by barrel, bourbon, vanilla, love, and just overall goodness. Incredibly complex; has to be one of my new favorite beers. HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 4, 2009 Growler, thanks to tpd975 for sharing. Poured a dark brown with reddish highlights and a thin tan head. Intense, complex nose, dark fruits like plum and raisin, molassess, bourbon, wood, and vanilla. Full body with a sticky mouth feel. Damn this stuff tastes good. Intense roasted flavor with loads of dark chocolate, prune, grape jelly, bourbon, vanilla, and some caramel. Boozy but dosen’t taste nearly 15% abv, you feel the alcohol more than taste it. Finishes slightly sweet with a little coconut. Great beer. TampaBrew (715), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2009 Growler courtesy of Tpd. Pours a brown/black. Nose is big bourbon booze, dark fruits, figs, plums, raisin, some smoke, roasted malts, vanilla, some cocoa, sweet molasses and caramel. Flavor is a perfect blend of bourbon, oak, sweet and roasty malts. Big fruity flavors in the background, over-ripe plum, dates, raisins, Oak, chocolate, cinnamon and toffee. warming alcohol. Absolute gem! Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jun 10, 2009 On tap at The Bruery’s tap room in Placentia. Oh how tempting this looked and smelled as I let it warm up after the initial pour. Pours a deep brown body with tints of red. Thin, tan head that never completely dissipates and stays whispy with a swirl. Huge aroma. Lots of bourbon and sweet wood. Dried plums, cherries, and figs with lots of vanilla, bready caramels, chocolate, and a mixture of fruitcake-like fruits. Oh yea...bourbon and wood...Flavor is much of the same with a bit of a tootsie-roll taste. Chocolate, molasses, burnt caramels, wood, bourbon, dried fruits, and vanilla. Finishes with a sweet, dry booze and lots of rich flavors. Full bodied and silky smooth. Overall, another wonderful beer from The Bruery. Extremely intense and complex, but well kept and well balanced. They sure know how to brew big beers. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA May 30, 2009 Dark brown with a fizzy off white head. Sweet alcohol sugar vanilla oak caramel and chocolate aroma and taste with raisin notes. SamGamgee (1393), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA May 18, 2009 Draught at The Bruery’s anniversary. Dark brown with a small beige head. Rich wood, bourbony, burnt sugars, creme brulee, caramel, and light alcohol aromas. Flavors of chocolate, molasses, burnt sugar, caramel, light wood, bourbon, smooth alcohol and light berry fruitiness, with a rich boozy and sweet finish. Full bodied and sticky with smooth carbonation. For how big this is, it drinks very smoothly, a trait it shares with most of their big beers. Still a bit too sweet for me to love. While it is intense and complex, it just lacked a certain cohesiveness. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Apr 16, 2009 on tap at EBF. Dark brown in color with a small tan head. Strong aroma of bourbon, chocolate, dark fruit, alcohol. Taste has chocolate, dark fruit, bourbon, oak, molasses, brown sugar, raisins. Alcohol is prevalent in the finish. Big and coating, this was a nice strong ale.
