Belgian-style ale, golden and hoppy. Not quite evil, yet not to be trusted, this Golden Ale is effervescent, dry, hoppy and crisp-you’ll want to keep an eye out. (ABV: 8.5%, IBU: 35, SRM: 4, Format: 750 mL bottles and draft)

[Bottle] Bright golden color with a touch of haze to it. Large cap of dense white foam on top. Once the foam receded, Belgian yeast, light perfume and floral hops were detectable in the aroma. Taste is of dried fruits, grape, more perfume, grass, citrus zest and yeasty phenols. Dry and tangy finish. Highly carbonated. Came together well for me. Tasting notes from 11/2011.

Beautiful golden pour, rocky white head. Spicy phenolic nose. Flavor is pear, green apple, banana, spice, some medicinal qualities, yeasty finish. Great job aping Duvel with maybe a touch more spicy hops. West coast classic for sure.

2013 bottle drunk late March 2014
Fantastic pour, somehow the head never goes away and there’s tons of the fluffy, off-white stuff, producing massive lacing. The body is a brilliant copper-golden, with plentiful carbonation and a good clarity.
Unfortunately, after you are impressed by the appearance, the fun ends. Instead of writing another needless rant, I’ll just say, see Ernest’s review or see TAR’s review. They both sum it up perfectly. Tacky, sappy, piney hops with just a massive amount of acidity both from the hops and yeast. Sugarry-sweet and near-cloying. I don’t get all of the eccentric off-flavors, but there’s plenty of fusels, aspirin, some metallic notes and lots of veggies. Boggles my mind how a brewer could brew this, taste it and say, Alright! Let’s bottle and sell this stuff!! Undrinkable. Fortunately I was just given a sample from a friend’s bottle, so I didnt have to pour it out, which I would have done had it been mine.

Still cloudy golden, bubbly ringed head. Eggy lemon, oily nose. Nice peppery scuttle of more lemon, tinny hop and thin almost witbeir creaminess. Impressive masking of the ABV, tang citrus on the finish and soft carbonation.

Bottle, Cheers LONick, April Not So Fools Tasting
