Wulfstan (397), California, USA May 13, 2008 Having tried this on tap, I can say that this is absolutely one of my new favourite witbiers. It’s hazy gold with a nice, lasting white head. It is very juicy with citursd and other juice and without the almost-chemically, sharp citrus-oil character that many wheat beers have. The herbs are wonderfully handled, adding light hints and subtle complexity without being obviously present, as is too often the case. They add constant light interest. It starts sweeter then gets more crips with a light tartness. KrausenJockey (557), Stockton, California, USA May 9, 2008 CBC San Diego. Pale straw gold color with big fluffy head. Nice yeast flavors with mild orange notes. Quite spicy and reminds me more of a Saison that a Wit. awaisanen (1071), Irvine, California, USA May 8, 2008 From a 750mL Bottle. Purchased at Hollingshead Deli 5/8/08. Pours a somewhat hazy, pale gold color with a huge head of rocky white. Heavily carbonated; while not paying attention, my bottle foamed all over the counter, even after pouring a full glass. Floral aroma with a touch of coriander herbalness and coconut husks. Doughy yeast aromas, bready malt, and a touch of creamy wheat. As it warms, the lavender aromas become more and more apparent, which is an enjoyable thing. Light bodied, heavily carbonated mouthfeel with a spritzy texture. As the carbonation retreats, a soft, mildly oily wheat/oat texture is left on the tongue. Oaty up front. Bready malt sweetness, along with some herbal coriander. Wonderfully dry. Mid-palate, some peppery and mace flavored yeast notes come through. Finishes with the lavender floral notes building and lingering in to the final smack. I don’t really get any of the orange peel, but I’m not missing it either. Really a solid beer overall. Definitely saison-like. Not at all a traditional wit, but what would be the fun in that? DenverLogan (373), Oceanside, California, USA May 1, 2008 Yellow...small head. Lovely citrus and malt and lemon grass and grapes and strolls thru fields of flowers with eye candy and happiness and I’d like some more please! kegbear (12), Orange, California, USA Apr 30, 2008 Updated: May 1, 2008On tap at Hollingshead. These guys are just starting out with thier new brewery and this Belgian white is very good indeed. Pale yellow color with a very refreshing flowery taste. Citris and spice are present. The lavender gives its dry finish a unique taste. I look forward to trying more from these guys!
