Bouteille brune, 75 cl, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savourée à ma fête 2009; œil : dorée, légèrement voilée, bonne effervescence, mousse blanche crémeuse, pas de dentelle; nez : levure, pain, léger coriandre, léger floral; bouche : levure, pain, coriandre, léger floral, finale en coriandre avec légère présence florale, corps moyen, rafraîchissante, coulante, pétillante; en résumé : bien beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 17, 2009 The pour reveals a cloudy golden color with a thick, bubbly, white head. The aroma is appealing with its lavender, citrus and coriander. The flavor has a nice blend of honey, citrus and coriander, the lavender is also present in the mouth. The body is light with an oily texture and very strong carbonation. This is a very well-done and highly quaffable beer. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 7, 2009 My Bottom Line:
This bubble bath of a Witbier presents a tantalizing lavender and coriander perfume that nicely compliments its honeyed malts and citrusy zing.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the nearly clear golden (before the yeast pour, of course).
-The intense effervescence can be obstrusive early on.
-The lean body and somewhat dry ending make this quaffable.
-The lavender is well integrated, but like rose water can be for some in desserts, its overt use may disgust those who simply don’t like its bold fragrance.
Bottle. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jul 4, 2009 On tap at brewery. Pours chalky light gold with a fluffy head. Aroma has nice spices, namely clove and coriander. Palate is mild, almost buttery, and very smooth. Flavor overall is herbal, mild and pleasant. Pretty tasty. sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 4, 2009 Bottle. Slight gusher when opened, it settled after a short time, didn’t lose much when it finally did. Pours a hazy, yellow/orange, huge white head that lingered for some time and left lacing. Aroma is pepper, malt and coriander. Flavor is more of the same, coriander, pepper, malt and a touch of hops. Finish is dry and pleasant. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jun 24, 2009 Draught at The Red. slightly hazy gold with a lasting white head. Super floral and fruity aroma with a hint of lavender evident, plus some citrus and wheat. The flavor is yeast and fruity, not really what I imagine in the style, but the citrus, wheat, and spices are all there. Medium-light in body with medium carbonation. The finish has a nice wheat tang to it that invites the next sip. A pretty unique wit, and I definitely like it. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 22, 2009 750ml bottle $8.49. The head is a pretty thick white mass with craters. The color is a little darker than I would expect for a wit, more orange than white-yellow. Still, it looks enticing to me as most beers do. The smell has soapy floral qualities hidden behind a spicyiness that I expect from wits and belgians in general. There might be the slightest bit of citrus peel/zest but that may be the power of suggestion from the label at work. The taste really threw me for a loop, it was funky at first and I couldn’t put my finger on it until it warmed up a bit and then I immediately thought of cinnamon. Specifically Dolly Madison coffee cake and dunkin’ sticks. I was expecting a more traditional wit but I’m glad that this beer is doing its own thing.
