awaisanen (1106), Irvine, California, USA May 8, 2008 From a 750mL Bottle. Purchased at Hollingshead Deli 5/8/08. Pours a somewhat hazy, pale gold color with a huge head of rocky white. Heavily carbonated; while not paying attention, my bottle foamed all over the counter, even after pouring a full glass. Floral aroma with a touch of coriander herbalness and coconut husks. Doughy yeast aromas, bready malt, and a touch of creamy wheat. As it warms, the lavender aromas become more and more apparent, which is an enjoyable thing. Light bodied, heavily carbonated mouthfeel with a spritzy texture. As the carbonation retreats, a soft, mildly oily wheat/oat texture is left on the tongue. Oaty up front. Bready malt sweetness, along with some herbal coriander. Wonderfully dry. Mid-palate, some peppery and mace flavored yeast notes come through. Finishes with the lavender floral notes building and lingering in to the final smack. I don’t really get any of the orange peel, but I’m not missing it either. Really a solid beer overall. Definitely saison-like. Not at all a traditional wit, but what would be the fun in that?
paytoplay (24), , California, USA Jul 16, 2008 Pours slightly yellow with a white haze. I’m not the biggest whit / white beer drinker. This one was really really good. Nose had floral, some citrus, white malt, chalk. Palate had crisp acidity, almost made it seem sour, the white’ness continued. Just as a whit beer is explained and made, tasted of dry wheat and malts. Can almost picture dry oatmeal in the tube.
Tons of sage and herb mixed in with the cloud of citrus and flowers. Very easy to drink. Mouthfeel is almost dry, and the taste is very complex thus the good rating. Will seak out way more Bruery beers after this positive experience. theisti (971), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 14, 2008 750 ml bottle purchased mail order from Joey at South Bay in Imperial Beach, CA. Pour is cloudy hazy golden yellow with a perfectly white one inch head. Aroma of floral hops and earthy grassy hops. Soft fruitiness present as well, strawberry or Kiwi. Very full and engaging nose. Lovely. Taste is flowers, bright hoppiness and wheat. Aftertaste is full of the hay and yeastiness. Palate is dry and on the full side for a Wit, must be the oats. Nice beer. Gregis (848), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle shared by theisti. Pours a cloudy orange-gold with a thin, creamy, ivory head. The aroma is a wheat malt front with coriander and a lighter note of orange peel in support. Light to medium-bodied and somewhat "grainy" at first, turning flinty at the finish. The flavor follows the nose with the aforementioned flintiness thrown into the mix. This is a solid wit. Thanks for sharing it with us, Tim. csbosox (937), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jul 12, 2008 Updated: Jul 13, 2008750ml bottle brought by theisti. Soft spicy aroma. Wheat, vegetal spice, I get the subtle spiciness of the lavender and some nice citrus as well as some yeast. Hazy gold color with a one fingered head and gentle carbonation. Nice mouthfeel. The taste is sharp wheat, citrus, spice. This is a pretty nice beer, maybe a bit overspiced, but still very nice. Snojerk321 (879), San Diego, California, USA Jul 12, 2008 On tap @ Tornado San Diego. Pours a cloudy sunshine yellow with a medium sized white head. Big aromas of candied citrus, coriander and other spices. A ton of stuff happening with the flavor, fruity and quite dry. I can’t wait to try the other offerings from this "Bruery"......!!
