Defined as "serving no practical purpose", the recipe for Otiose was developed during a rare break in the brewing schedule; a recipe we came up with to satisfy our own desires and nothing more. The result is a sour brown ale aged in oak barrels to which we added guava. Riddled with tropical notes which are balanced by it’s malty backbone, Otiose is a rich and decadent sour ale. 8.2%, Cellerable for up to 3 years.

Deep copper amber beer, decent head. Hazy reddish ruby color, nice head. Sourish fruity aroma, caramel, vinous, raisins, figs, some yeast. Sourish fruity flavor, vinegar, raisins, some oak. Quite nice.

Dark brown with a medium small head. Aroma is tart and slight malty with some cherry notes, toffee Taste is sour and light sweet. Finish is sour lemon, grapes, some toffee notes, prunes, hints of barnyard and lemon. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation.

Bottle received as extra in trade. Thank you Andrew! pours very dark reddish brown with a small beige head that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissiapting. Smell is malty and tiny funky with dark v´bread, caramel, lemon juice, dark grapes, moist soil, leather, moist wood, barnyard and lemon zest. Taste is very tiny sweet, sour, malty and fruity. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, mouth-puckering and medium bodied. finish is sour with crackers, dark bread, caramel, lemon juice, dark grapes, moist soil, leather, barnyard and lemon zest. Poured a hazy orange with a white head. Aroma was of yeast, vinegar, light fruit and lemon. Flavor similar, mouth puckering and acetone. People who rate hightly these BS sours that the bruery produces crack me up.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear reddish color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some light vinous notes and some oak. Taste is a complex mix of guava with some tart and oak notes with some light vinous notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice level of complexity with some good drinkability with the nice guava presence.

Bottle from trade. Pours a murky brown with a scant head. Aromas of oak and some light citrus. Taste is tart and semi dry. Flavors of sour apple, some orange, oak, moss and a slight funk. Perhaps a touch of vinegar. Alcohol is hidden. Tart, lip smacking finish. I want to like this more than I do, but in the end it’s just another mediocre Bruery offering.
