3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle from BroCanSail. Thanks, Andrew! Been waiting to pop this for awhile. Memorial Day Fun Day? Why not. Pours a nice darker brownish pour, a good darker middle and body, the copper brown glow and rusty red hues come out on the bottom and edges more. Brownish thicker filmy layer atop stays firmly sized, sticks around and laces ok. Aromas are potent sour cherries, red wine, and oak. Good tangy vinegar feel, quite tart, the guava gives a blast of tropical fruit over the top, giving this that American juicy spin. Also making it more complex, the guava really make this, adding some balsamic elements, touch of carmelization. Sour cherries, lactic acidity, lemon, tropical fruit and guava, firm oak. Bretty funk more mellow, the fruit presence grabs me. Initial is medium bodied, some good fruity vibrany up front, not as sour as the nose let on. Some guava, cherries, and pie fruit. Firm sour and tartness, lemon, sour cherries, and gentle cranberry. Some leathery funk, balsamic elements in the middle. A medium good sourness, lactic and cherry, some red wine, firm oak as we round the corner. A touch thinner but really nice flavors here I think. A bit of cocoa and biscuity malt peek through. It’s sourness trails off a bit but still remains a more potent sour overall. A bit of cocoa, lactic, cherries and some tart tropical fruit. Firm oak, mellow brett. Pretty nice. Can see the nose and front end being a bit much for others, but I much enjoyed this one. Not as harsh and brash as some of the Vitis series but not quite up there with Bruery’s most complete sour offerings. Nice beer.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pour is hazy deep brown with a small white head. Aroma and flavor deep and tart with faint fruity notes, light wood, and some faint sweet notes in the finish. Not getting too much guava - maybe a little in the aroma but would not have noticed if I did not know it was there. A great sour brown nonetheless.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle brought back from California. This beer pours to a red body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is sour chocolate, oaked fruits, and malt. The flavor is sour chocolate malts with light oak and guava juice. Complex sourness and acidic palate. Like very good chocolates.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is lemon, tropical fruit notes, some tannic wood aroma. Dark red brown off white head spotty lacing. Taste sour, tart, tannic wood, lemon, tropical fruits. Kind of weird sour seemingly based in a Flanders style.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(750ml bottle thanks to SaucerSam) cloudy as hell, yeasty floaters, ruby-amber. Nose of strawberry, lightly acetic, wet barrel, pedio/lacto. Taste of oak, cranberry, light cherry, tart without vinegar, medium body, cherry and toasted oak linger. Liking the finish a lot.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2013 Top notch appearance: dark red body below head and lace which are stubborn beyond reason.
Aroma holds tart fruits and a wine-like oaky character. Guava gets lost on my palate, malt feels slightly out of place, bing cherries dance awkwardly by themselves in the corner. The components are here, they just need to work together better. Wish the fruit shone through more. Needs work.
Updated 7/10: Batch 2. More guava than last time, plenty tart, pretty tasty. I like this.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is very fruity with notes of cherries and berries. There is quite a bit of acidity as well with both lactic and acetic notes. Some oak notes and only light guava characteristics.
Pours a cloudy brown with lots of ruby highlights. The brown is more of a burnt amber. Tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges and a thin film on top. Low lacing.
Flavor is very acidic with quite a bit of acetic acid notes and lighter lactic character. There is a lot of fruitiness with cherries and berries again dominating. I don’t really get much guava except in the finish. Quite a bit of oak character but only light dark malt notes. Medium low bitterness. A bit of a fusel alcohol note in the finish. Finish is nice and dry and as it warms the guava becomes more apparent.
Medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Medium low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth.
Overall an alright sour but it needs some fine tuning. This is one of my least favorite sours from the Bruery. The guava doesn’t mix great with the acetic acid notes.
