Defined as "serving no practical purpose", the recipe for Otiose was developed during a rare break in the brewing schedule; a recipe we came up with to satisfy our own desires and nothing more. The result is a sour brown ale aged in oak barrels to which we added guava. Riddled with tropical notes which are balanced by it’s malty backbone, Otiose is a rich and decadent sour ale. 8.2%, Cellerable for up to 3 years.

750 ml bottle. Pours dark reddish amber with a creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet and sugary acidic sourness with some fruit.

The flavor is sweet sugary malts with some fruity tartness. There’s quite a bit of acidity and some wood and some mouth-puckering sourness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice sour. A little too sweet for me.

Bottle... Poured murky, deep brown with a mild forming off-white head. Aroma of lactic acid and tartness with mild barrel notes. Dry, sour, some charred grains and darker malts with a lively sourness and fruit character. Focuses and contained as far as the acidity. Complex and balanced. Nice drinking sour beer.

Huge thanks to Brett for sharing this bottle! Opaque, turbid red-orange pour with a decent off-white head. Nose and flavor hold unripe strawberry, guava, big balsamic and red wine vinegar, grape must, vin cotto, acetic acid, and hints of vanilla. The acidity works in this beer, but more fruit and less heaviness would have made it better. Still, a pleasure.

Pours a nice dark reddish-brown topped by a small oftwhite ring that offers some light lacing. Aroma of red fruits and light vinegar. Taste is fruity and really tart. Tartness hinders my capability to clearly identify any fruits. Body is light to medium. Nice and not too harsh but still a little unbalanced.

Bottle (750 ml). From Tom, thanks! Dark copper with reddish reflects, a medium beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of red fruits, wood, acetic notes and caramel. Taste is about the same with the sourness being more present. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish. A tad too acetic, but complex and fairly drinkable. Good!

Thanks Brian and Athena Brown with blood rose tones. Smells like lemon, guava (turns out it has it in the beer), light vinegar. Tart, quite tart and some cherries, some lemon and a little white vinegar. Thin with cloying character and dry finish. Nice beer.
