Oude Tart is a Flemish-Style Red Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. It’s pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak. While this is one of the more classic beer styles that we make, it’s not a style that you can find too often in the United States. Originating in style from the Flanders region of Belgium, near the French boarder, this dark, sour ale has roots deep in brewing history and predates most of the ales that have become popular in contemporary culture. We’re doing our best to keep the tradition alive by brewing and aging this beer here on the west coast.

Dark red brown. Thin tan head that dissipates and leaves no lacing. Typical Flemish nose. Tart cherries, vinegar, wine. Taste is tart cherries, oak, more vinous than vinegary. Dry finish.

Bottle. Pour is cloudy and really deep brown with hints of ruby red. Almost no head. Aroma is woody, leathery, tart, cherry, hints of red bull/ jager. Flavor is quite tart up front and throughout with hints of cherry, light wine notes, and a deep seeded sweetness. Very assertive beer. Nicely tart with good character.

The aroma is sour and malty with fruit and leather. The appearance is light brown with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall this is not that good.

Has a nice aroma but the beer is light palate, the sourness of the beer is quite tart. Like a salad dressing but still give some substance ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark deep red pour with small head. Sour cherry aroma. Sweet at first then dark berry tartness with some wheat like flavor. Sour tinge in the finish and rounding out with oakiness.

Whew, this is an excellent sour. Very aptly named, the first whiff and taste is like getting run over by a Sweet Tart delivery truck driven by a Sour Patch Kid. Mellows a bit as it breathes, some sourness dissipates while a nice breadiness becomes more distinct. Very drinkable, very funky, very tart, very, very delicious.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium collapsing beige head; leaves a ring of big-bubbly foam. Aroma consists of barnyard funk, vinegar, overripe dark fruit, wood. Taste is nice and mouth-puckering sour/acidic (the way I like them) and woody, finishes dry. Maybe a tad watery. Excellent. I needed a beer to pair with Weekend at Bernies and I guess this is it.

750 ml. bottle- Pours very hazy reddish with an ugly big bubbly head that reduces immediately, but with this style it is sometimes to be expected! Aroma is very tart, a foot away it smelled tart, oak is massive as well. Taste is Tart up front, dark fruits are there, oak is dominant! I like this, I actually really like this, very tart, in your face. I do wish it had more complexity, just seems like the tartness overwhelms everything, I want the flavors of the dark fruits and sugars to compliment the sourness more. Minor complaining, good beer for sure!

Deep garnet red-brown in color with off-white head. Sour lactic nose with black cherry and currants. Slight nod to toasted malt and basement. Pleasnt, but solid tartness with light cherry and merlot notes and very faint toasted, fading to roasted, malt. Faint brown sugar towards the end and a light nutty quality. Light oaky finish. Lingering dry oak. Would actually prefer a drier finish. A solid offering.

[4721-20120818] Bottle. Mild wild cherry toasted malt aroma. Hazy, dark amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy tan head. Malty dark cherry toasted malt flavour has a nice long aftertaste. Medium body. Delicious! (8/4/8/4/17) 4.1
