COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Tart is a Flemish-Style Red Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. It’s pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak. While this is one of the more classic beer styles that we make, it’s not a style that you can find too often in the United States. Originating in style from the Flanders region of Belgium, near the French boarder, this dark, sour ale has roots deep in brewing history and predates most of the ales that have become popular in contemporary culture. We’re doing our best to keep the tradition alive by brewing and aging this beer here on the west coast.

750 ml. bottle- Pours very hazy reddish with an ugly big bubbly head that reduces immediately, but with this style it is sometimes to be expected! Aroma is very tart, a foot away it smelled tart, oak is massive as well. Taste is Tart up front, dark fruits are there, oak is dominant! I like this, I actually really like this, very tart, in your face. I do wish it had more complexity, just seems like the tartness overwhelms everything, I want the flavors of the dark fruits and sugars to compliment the sourness more. Minor complaining, good beer for sure!

Deep garnet red-brown in color with off-white head. Sour lactic nose with black cherry and currants. Slight nod to toasted malt and basement. Pleasnt, but solid tartness with light cherry and merlot notes and very faint toasted, fading to roasted, malt. Faint brown sugar towards the end and a light nutty quality. Light oaky finish. Lingering dry oak. Would actually prefer a drier finish. A solid offering.

[4721-20120818] Bottle. Mild wild cherry toasted malt aroma. Hazy, dark amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy tan head. Malty dark cherry toasted malt flavour has a nice long aftertaste. Medium body. Delicious! (8/4/8/4/17) 4.1

Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing. Tremendous woody aroma. Mouth puckering sourness. Extremely tart with noticeable wood and dry fruit. Dry finish. Good, but definitely a sipper.

bottle. Deep red, not much of a head. Smells oaky, fruity. Tastes very oaky, crisp, rich, nice sour finish. Very good.

Dark brown with a medium off white head. Aroma is very sour, dark fruit. Flavor is extremely tart and sour as advertised. There’s a bit of a dark malt oak quality underneath. This is obviously well made but a bit overpowering for me. Very intense.

Right off the bat, there’s an awesome combination of both tart cherry and sweet and spicy black cherry. This is followed by a lot of the stuff mentioned above. Leather, green apple, vinegar, and oak are joined by tart red grape, spices, tangy berry, and bitter citrus. Floating underneath all of this is a layer of sweetness that binds and compliments everything happening here

Bottle - 750mL crowned. Very dark, murky ruby pour with a short, bubbly tan head. Strong aromas of sour fruit, grape skins, wet wood, leather, damp earth and funky yeast notes. Taste is sour fruit, light leather, hints of balsamic vinegar, funky yeast, wet wood, red wine, grape skins and earthy notes. Body is light-medium with only spotty, bubbly carbonation. Lots of acidity to this as well as a bone dry finish. Ends with more red wine, balsamic vinegar, sour fruit, wet leather, damp woody notes, funky yeast, earthiness and unripe berries.

Bomber. Pours red with thin white head. Aroma is sour cherries, apple, and a little funk. Flavor is the same plus some plum. Very nice.

Pours dark chestnut brown. Light head but its there. Carbonation level really is perfect. Notes of celery salt. Black pepper. Fresh radishes. Red wine. Wet wood. Fish sauce. Excellent long clean finish. Tart but not too funky. Really open well as it warms amazing beer.
