4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(Bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 19 2014) Beautiful deep red-brown colour, like nahogany glass, with a small white head and no lace. Nice oude bruin character on the nose with tart red berries overlaying dark fruit, caramel malt, vanilla, oak, light balsamic vinegar, a little vinous as expected. On the palate, fairly sour/tart and acidic with red berries and dark fruit, a bit of vinegar, red wine touches, a fairly hefty malt core, oak coming in mid palate but fairly balanced with some leather and subtle vanilla, mild toasted notes and a hint of funk. Finish is fairly dry with lingering tartness and oak supporting a decent helping of malt. Medium body with pretty active carbonation. This is quite a nice Flanders brown that doesn’t really overdo any area, sourness, fruit, malt or wood. Good balance if not transcendental.

Bottle. Dark amber body with medium, quickly evading, head. Aroma has tartness character, light woody notes. Taste has acidic sourness, long bitter background, light malty support. Body is full, medium carbonation. Not bad, but not as good as I’ve expected for the fame.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
75cl bottle from Mother Kelly’s in London. It pours a deep dark ruby color with purple edges and the tiniest off-white head. The little foam dissipates immediately. Aroma is intensely sour and vinegarish with notes of wiod, basement, cherries and more wild berries. Taste is acidic with some sweeter fruit notes. More flavours of sour cherries, wild berries, wood and dusty basement. Some funk and lemon zest. Body is medium with lively carbonation. Overall, very good brew and quite a proper example of the style.
