COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Tart is a Flemish-Style Red Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. It’s pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak. While this is one of the more classic beer styles that we make, it’s not a style that you can find too often in the United States. Originating in style from the Flanders region of Belgium, near the French boarder, this dark, sour ale has roots deep in brewing history and predates most of the ales that have become popular in contemporary culture. We’re doing our best to keep the tradition alive by brewing and aging this beer here on the west coast.

Pours deep brownish red nearly black with a small off white head. Aroma woody, tart, acidic some red wine character from the strong fruits, leather and earthy. Flavor starts sweet and sour, with the sweet from cherry and a dark fruit plum character and the sour in the form of balsamic and lemon character. Really nice balance, love the red wine barrel came together very well.

Balanced tart beer. This comes out as is shaud be, the pallete cherry cask with sour yeast cherry stone glue beer. Price performance is tough

2015 Bottle from Kihoskh. No head whatsoever, no carbonation -- is this on purpose or did the bottle get compromised during travel? Tastes like a flat Rodenbach Grand Cru with extra alcohol. This must be a mistake. Would love to try again but don’t dare to spend that much again for such a disappointment.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2016 Sampled from bottle at CBF Wien.
Dark copper-brown, clear body, with almost no head.
Aroma of red wine, barrel, leather, ripe fruits, apples, some pears, some vinegar.
Tastes of heavy barrel, red wine, vinegar, overripe fruits, leather, sour cherries, some apples, some alcohol.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes sour, wooden, vinous, very fruity, a bit sweet, with vinegar

Tasty. Complex, with lots of barrel notes and lovely fruits. Quite heavy and sour though, slightly too overpowering. Not among my favourite style examples, while still a really enjoyable sipper.
