DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 10, 2009 Pours turbid ruby brownish with 1-finger, creamy, well retained off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, some earthy notes, figgy fruit, merlot. Tastes fruity, with cherry and berry, some brown sugar, hops, but primarily a fruity malt bomb with a definite prop to Durhambeer for his yam note. I never noticed yams in nose or tongue before, but this beer has them. The complexity is lacking, and the balance is off. but the fruit keeps hitting you along with the malt and backup hops. Well hidden alcohol, but something is amiss here. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Mar 10, 2009 Bottle shared by JCB. Tons of brown sugar and a yam-like vibe... I thought those were supposed to only be in the Autumn Maple. Taste also of cherry skins. Solid, but not great. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Mar 7, 2009 Draught at Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, bread, straw), light hops (flowers), heavy yeast (dough, earth) with notes of pear and honey. Full bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Mar 1, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Sweet, apricot and honey nose. Excellent flavor. Very full-bodied. Sweet but it mellows out beautifully. Kicked ass. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Feb 22, 2009 Bottle shared by JCB. Pretty nice quad. Sweet and spicy. Alcohol there, but not overwhelming. Dark fruits abound. Quads vary so much, especially in the USA. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Feb 20, 2009 Updated: Feb 21, 2009Bottle. Pours cloudy red/brown. Aroma is apples, pears, malt, and sugar. Flavor is brown sugar, pears, apples, spices, and bananas. Medium body. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Feb 14, 2009 Bottled. Nice sweetness, sugar in the aroma, light spices and some musty apple. Flavor has good fruity complexity and a nice body, with low carbonation and a good sweet flavor. Not too much like a traditional Belgian quad but a nice beer none-the-less. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Feb 13, 2009 Pours murky brown-mahogany with a thick, creamy off-white head. Aroma of sugar, brown sugar, pears, apples, nutmeg, yeast, and boozy malt. Sour-sweet taste, very bretty at first. Soon, turns into a sweet, spiced wine concoction. Lots of fruit, mostly pears and apricots, but an underlying grapey/vinuous tanginess. Alcohol is decently masked, but there is a warming and a bit of ethyl at times. Flat mouthfeel, but full. Easy drinker, though definitely a sipper with its ABV. Dare I say, and knowing this is a quad, but it is one of the better holiday beers out there.
