COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Salt of the Earth is our play on a gose. Not to be confused with a gueze, the gose style originated in Leipzig, Germany. It is a wheat beer traditionally brewed with salt and coriander as well as lactic bacteria. Clearly not following the Reinheitsgebot, we figured we’d knock it up a level by using an addition of truffle salt in our gose, adding an earthy and funky element to the aroma and flavor certain to tantalize all of the foodies out there.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of JohnC. Pours a hazy yellow with a creamy and lacing white head. An odd cheesy aroma t first - then comes the coriander. Very light body, a slightly tart fruitiness, very coriandery and fruity. I guess I can feel a slight salty edge, but the beer is far from salty. No bitterness. 220312

Bottle thanks to richiesd. It pours hazy golden yellow, with a large fluffy white head. The nose is hay, straw, very herbal, wood, floral, truffle and earth -well balanced. The taste is spice, herb, tart citrus fruit, wood, floral, hay, straw, farmyard and earth, with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and a light, foamy mouth-feel. Great balance. I enjoyed this one.

(750ml bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear medium gold, lasting film of fine off-white bubbles. Nose of salt, very earthy/funky, bit of lactic acid. Taste of salt, mildly acidic, earthy, berry, weird barrel/oak notes. Well carbonated, dry, and oaky finish.

Tasted on 2/18/12 from a capped 750mL bottle shared by a very generous soul at the Fortuitous release. Pours a hazy pale golden with a thick white head that recedes fairly quickly to thin lacing. The nose is a very interesting earthy, salty, sweaty, citrus and wheat with some buttered popcorn. The flavor is just as weird, with the earthy and sweaty notes up front, moving to citrus, creamy buttered popcorn, and a huge dose of salt, and finishing with wheaty cereal. The body is light with lively, almost sparkling carbonation, and a long salty citrus finish.

750mL bottle. Poured cloudy pale golden with a tall, sticky white head.. plenty of lacing followed it down. The aroma picked up earthy salt, lemon zest, and coriander.. fresh wheat supported.. the nose came across as more salty than sour. The flavor found a nice combo of salty notes, coriander, tangy wheat, and lactic sourness.. refreshing all the way through.. some fruity funk, but I would’ve preferred a little more. Lighter-bodied and very well carbonated on the palate.. really good stuff!

Pours hazy and yellow with a huge white head. Nose is obviously coriander and salt. Also a very strong sweat smell. Flavor is sweet up front then a little sour followed by a salty punch. First time I have ever had this type of beer. It’s unique. Not sure if I hate it or love it. Pallet is somewhat soft however the salt adds a sharp note at the peak. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at the DC Local Tasting a 750ml bottle pours a hazy, bright yellow with some creamy, white head. The nose has a ton of truffle, smells like buttered popcorn too, herbal, very earthy, a little funky. Flavor has more truffle, fungus, sweet, butter poaches mushroom, liught spice. Medium bodied, buttery finish. Very unique.

750mL thanks to nmann08. Huge white head eruption on a muddier, cloudy light golden. Thick lace. Nose is huge buttered popcorn/diacetyl. Carbonation on the palate is effervescent. Taste is odd with big celery character, diacetyl, and apple along with home brewing flaws like heavy minerals and odd infecting bacteria. Tart lemon finish. Moderate salt character. Less salty than Veritas 009. Very weird. Did not enjoy this.

Bottle, out of my Maudite glass. Shared with Cole and TheHulk, while we watched Hobo with a Shotgun. Great movie. Pours clear yellow; thick white head, great lacing. Nose is sweet yeast/cold cream, rosewater, grain, truffles, some Champagne-like notes here too... Flavours of coriander, earth, some real salty notes here, but overall a bit bland.
