Rueuze is our take on the traditional Belgian-style blend of lambics of different ages.  We carefully select a number of oak barrels from our warehouse that have been aging our sour blonde ale. this is one complex beer.  Notes of hay, barnyard funk, apricots, and even olives play wonderfully with the balanced acidity.

I had this at a tasting at Total Wine in Laguna Hills, CA. This golden pour has very little head but had the sour/funky taste I’d expect in a gueuze.

750 ml bottle via my old Reserve Society membership. Pours a clouded bright pale gold with virtually no head. Notes of lemon citrus, sawdust, acetic acid, lime, grass, straw, white grapes, melow spice, cheesecloth, and a slightly basementy funk. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a tart, acidic mouthfeel. Not quite the real thing, but a solid attempt and quite tasty.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a white head. Aroma is bretty with the barnyard funk, lemon and a hint of brine, oak, tart. Taste is tart and sour. Apple, pears, cheesy. Medium, puckering dry mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Light golden color with a firm white head. Sour Punk Lemon, grapefruit, and a strange wheat grass aroma. Flavor was light tartness without a heavy funk, but still enjoyably rancid. Light fruits, some acidity, a little sweetness with a zesty finish.

Bottle from Viti, Vancouver
Hazy deep blond color with small head. Nice aroma, with a good degree of complexity; cellar, cheese rind, footy, a bit citrusy; deep. Semi-dry mouthfeel, quite high acidity, some acetone (this is not really Belgian or Lambic), lemony, some cellar flavor, astringent final. Thin, lemony, sour final.
Good somehow, but it shows like tradition is not acquired in a nighttime, and American breweries can’t just replicate Belgian Lambic.

Pour is transparent golden amber with a small amount of tight white head. Nose has a good bit of hay, light wheat notes, hints of lemon, lacto, notes of vinegar, and some off plastic notes. Taste has a bit more vinegar and a decent bit of lemon, faint wheat notes, fair amount of lactic acid, not the burn I was expecting from them. Moderate carbonation, lighter body, lingering musk.

Hazy, subtle lambicy aroma. Tart, wheaty, fruity. Tart, good balance, earthy woody character. Gueuze-like. I’d be happy to have made this.

Soft golden pour with a thick crumbly white head that laces thinly. Very vinous aroma with some acetic notes and floral esters. Sweet fruit and tannins as well. Nice bright acidity with some acetic notes and tannin. Fruity esters. Dry and acidic with a light body.

Bottle at Ryan and Jodi’s with friends. Pour is clear orange with a small white head. Funky, citrusy, urine, biscuity, grassy, caramelly, and lemony aroma. Taste is sour lemons, funky, light urine, lime, light salt, doughy, white wine vinegar, and oak with a huge sour finish. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Very sour but nice funk notes.

On tap at the Brick Store Pub at the 17th Anniversary. Pours hazy orange, with a big, creamy, white head. The aroma is apricots, chardonnay, musty attic, lemon juice and lots of funk. Light earthy and sugary sweetness, and big, puckering sourness. Medium body, chewy and very sticky, and astringent. Overall, this is a very aggressive, mouth puckering, palate ruining lambic. Undeniably delicious, but not very approachable.

75 cl bottle.
Pours somewhat hazy dark copper color with a small head. Some nettle and lemon on the nose, yeast, mild herbal notes and yeast. Very tart flavor, grape fruits, rowan berries and some gooseberries. Sour, but not overly so, tart pleasant and fruity. Well past my expectations.
