Bottle shared by my good friend Randy, you rock brotha! A lot of sour funkness going on here. Hints of citrus and lime. Good tartness and those sour funky qualities sour heads love.

Bottle, shared with Davey, courtesy of b3shine-- thanks Beau! Bright, hazy golden body topped by a bubbly white head. The entire profile of this beer is tart and zesty, like a young sour ale. By that I mean there is no funk or petroleum or acetic notes. The sourness here is raw and fruit driven, unripened apricots and unripened berries combine with a softer lactic acidity. Quenching and so crazy drinkable! Neither of us found this to be very complex, but that did not in any way take away from the enjoyment we had with this beer-- an approachable, flavourful young gueuze.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours slightly hazy golden orange, big white head with quick dissipation.
Smell watery lemon and bile. Smells a bit tart but not in a classic funky way.
Taste tart up front, very tart in the back. Bit of bile on the end. Lots of citrus, but lacking the farmhouse funk that an authentic gueuze. Maybe lacking wheat sweetness as well.
Ok, not the best, but not totally off style

Slight orange tinted golden colored pour. Small amount of white bubbles. No lacing. Sour aroma with peach and lemon notes. Taste is a tart grapefruit and oak. Very good.

750ml bottle tasted blind. Hazy tan-orange. Not much head, oily. Very American Sour, reminds me of lambic yeast test tubes. Huge overwhelming sour tones, doesn’t have much finesse. Lemon-lime sour, but not much else. Some white wine touches. OK.

Solid american sour, nice candylike sourness and tartness, not super funky mostly lacto.

Thanks to HisBoyElroy for the split. Heavy heavy sour. Sits sour in your stomach sour. All about the lemon. Not much funk. Not at all really. I don’t see how this is a gueuze. But still good stuff.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2013 Bottle: thanks, Josh! Almost completely opaque yellow with a head that is gone in seconds. Aroma is tart lemon, light vinegar, lacto yeast, wet hay, & a sharp, acidic finish. Taste is sour; very sour. Lemon flesh, heavy acetic acid & vinegar, light yogurt, sour lacto yeast. Stomach burning sourness. Dry oak & sour lemon finish. Liquid lemon Warhead. Very good but very rough on the stomach. Needs more funk to represent real gueuze, though.

Picked up a 750ml of this despite the $22 price tag and my feelings about The Bruery because I just had to know how it stacks up against real gueuze. I suspected it would not and I was right. Appearance is orange, clear (let it settle for two months and poured it like a gueuze), and looks almost identical to Cantillon gueuze. Aroma is interesting, has a mustiness and a slight touch of minerals and copper that immediately makes me think of Cuvee Rene. Slight touch of body odor (no lie, sweaty), cereal and then ass (eww). The aroma is good at first but its not gueuze. I can deal with sweat and body odor but not ass. Super fruity flavor, sour, tart, tastes good but this is definitely going to stand out in a blind tasting as not being authentic gueuze, it lacks funk in the flavor and has a sweetness to it. I caught a sweetness in Duck Duck Gooze as well and I’ve never caught that in the real stuff. Overall I would not buy this again, its not fooling anyone as a gueuze but as a wild ale it was a good offering. Probably one of the better beers I’ve had from The Bruery (I usually avoid them).
