Meaning "rye bread" in Danish, we took our inspiration for this beer from the Danes’ staple dark, whole-grain rye bread. Brewed with three types of rye malt, this robust brown ale showcases the earthy, spicy character of the grain, complemented by bready, nutty barley malts and a hint of roast. Loosely based on the Scandinavian Christmas beer or "Julebryg" tradition, this beer is perfect for the colder weather of winter, although it will be available year-round (because who doesn’t love a dark beer now and again, regardless of weather?) And don’t worry about the name, we can’t pronounce it either! But we do have a video of us and a lot of others trying our best at it.

[ Courtesy of SecretSanta ]. Light unclear dark red brown color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, rye, bready, rye bread notes, light hoppy, moderate yeasty, belgium yeast. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, rye notes and dry. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft, and very carbonated. [20100209]

22 fl oz bottle, courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours dark orange and with a small off-white head. Spiced and dry malty note. Bitter, dry, yeasty and spiced flavoured, Dry into a roasted finish, Light spice note. Malty yes, but too carbonated.

What is this? A deep red beer with a huge over carbonated tan head, how come it is so over carbonated? infection - definately not a Danish style! The aroma has notes of burnt caramel and spices. The flavor is sweet with notes or roasted malt, spices and an off-note.

Bottle at home, guess it’s still gushing in my kitchen. Clear orange brown coloured with a huge off white head. Fruity aroma of caramel, dried fruits and yeast with notes of dish washer liquorice and chocolate. Fruity flavour of caramel, dried fruits, spices and yeast with notes of chocolate. Spicy finish of chocolate.

Bottled. Hazy ambery colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is caramel, grains, some rubber and mild rye. Flavour is caramel malts, some dark fruits, mild rye and some dark dry fruits. Mild yeastyness as well.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a reddish amber with floating impurities and an off-white head. Nutty aroma, some burned caramel. Overly carbonated, comes gushing for a long, long time. Medium body, lots of hard roasted malt - kinda Brown aleish. Dryish, hoppy finish. Simply way too carbonated. 080210

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma. Fruity malty ryeish spicy yeasty flavor with hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty caramel and rye finish with spicy hints in the aftertaste.

Hazy dark red-brown beer. Small off white head. Semi dry palate. Fresh dark malt with nice undertones of cocoa-chocolate and dark red fruits. Hints of cherry and plum. A mild rye spice then kicks in before a dry malt finish with subtle notes of bubblegum and more red fruits. Quite subtle for a rye beer but has a nice line up if positive characteristics.

Tap at Churchkey. Light copper color with a thin white head and scant lacing. Aroma of pumpernickel and lemon. Flavor has rye and caramel. Nice enough.
