pantani (1895), Salinas, California, USA Apr 5, 2009 Foggy gold, nice white head. Aroma is rye, malt, light yeast, light spice.
Taste is a strong rye, yeast, light malt, some spice, and pepper to it. Heavy carbonation. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Apr 4, 2009 20090404 750ml bottle from Capone’s. Dark, hazed golden with lasting creamy off-white head. Fruity stuff with peach, tangerine, and pineapple notes, floral and perfumed, sweet yellow cake batter. Nice spiciness throughout, pepper, coriander. A tad hot and some lingering alcohol. Grassy notes as it warms, especially the last pour. Nice beer. Ughsmash (3983), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 21, 2009 750mL bottle. Poured bright golden-orange with a creamy cap of white head. The aroma picked up lemon zest, earth, and ginger over bready and toffee sweetness.. some deeper funk accented.. well put together. The flavor was more influenced by the Brett and the spicage with peppery notes, caraway seeds, and sour funky notes, especially on the back.. simple, yet adequate bready base.. just a little harsh at the end. Fuller-bodied with soft, rolling carbonation on the palate.. balance was good for the first 3/4 of the drink.. enjoyable overall. Rciesla (3515), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours a golden hazy body with a white head. Sweet fruity pear with plenty of spices, cinnamon, strong ginger, and peppercorn. Very sharp carbonation. A hint of nail polish remover, rye and brett. Good brew. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Mar 19, 2009 Duvel in a Duvel glass? No, it’s Saison Rue by The Bruery! And it’s more and different than that comparable chaotic lacing, thick white head, and lively golden body of Duvel. My only complaint is that Saison Rue is too dry and bready and the sweetness that is there is somewhat like what one tastes from Pixy Stix. Otherwise, the well-carbonated, lightly creamy brew does great due to its awesomely balanced flavors. Very true to style and I do like the style. bonbright7 (173), Bellport, New York, USA Mar 18, 2009 We tasted this last night after reading a lot of press about it. I was initially suspicious of the labeling, which mentioned rye, but the aroma invited the first taste. It reminded me of a well known Saison from southeastern Belgium as the combination of fruit and spices lured me in. The neat oatmeal style head was only the surface of a very complex ale. thornecb (1737), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Mar 13, 2009 Bottle erupts upon opening...finally settles to pours hazy gold into a tulip. Off-white head sticks in chunks to the glass as it recedes. Sour funk and fruit aromas. Crisp and dry with upfront sweet coriander and alcohol. Lasting funk finish. Nice! SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 11, 2009 750 ml bottle - pours light cooper and clear with minor carbonation; huge fluffy white head; rye, lemon peels, spice (coriander?); a little musky and almost wine-like; drinks sweet and fruity; dry and mildly tart; expect more brett character over time, though it is quite dry; very nice
