Bottle. Pours a golden hazy body with a white head. Sweet fruity pear with plenty of spices, cinnamon, strong ginger, and peppercorn. Very sharp carbonation. A hint of nail polish remover, rye and brett. Good brew.

Duvel in a Duvel glass? No, it’s Saison Rue by The Bruery! And it’s more and different than that comparable chaotic lacing, thick white head, and lively golden body of Duvel. My only complaint is that Saison Rue is too dry and bready and the sweetness that is there is somewhat like what one tastes from Pixy Stix. Otherwise, the well-carbonated, lightly creamy brew does great due to its awesomely balanced flavors. Very true to style and I do like the style.

We tasted this last night after reading a lot of press about it. I was initially suspicious of the labeling, which mentioned rye, but the aroma invited the first taste. It reminded me of a well known Saison from southeastern Belgium as the combination of fruit and spices lured me in. The neat oatmeal style head was only the surface of a very complex ale.

Bottle erupts upon opening...finally settles to pours hazy gold into a tulip. Off-white head sticks in chunks to the glass as it recedes. Sour funk and fruit aromas. Crisp and dry with upfront sweet coriander and alcohol. Lasting funk finish. Nice!

750 ml bottle - pours light cooper and clear with minor carbonation; huge fluffy white head; rye, lemon peels, spice (coriander?); a little musky and almost wine-like; drinks sweet and fruity; dry and mildly tart; expect more brett character over time, though it is quite dry; very nice

Pours hazy dark straw orange, not orange enough to be called copper penny color, but close. The head is off-white, copious, and reemerging with the repour and sticking around awhile. The nose is candi sugary malt, solid funky female gymnast feety, with spicy florals, coriander, and hops. The taste is malty, candi sugary, full bodied, with a nice balance of floral, yeasty spicy, and funky taste sensations. The balance is very good, and the complexity is above what I expected. The Bruery has impressed me so far, and this is a flagship brew for them. I’d probably buy the White Orchard first and this second. I dare say this one ranks up there with the solid French, Belgian, German, and Swiss saisons, although I crave more Bretty, female feety horse blanket. Pump up the funk, as Young DMC tragically sang right before he had a cap popped in his ass, and this one would shoot into the stratosphere. As it stands, it is an outstanding saison.

Bottle shared with the brewer at Capones event during PBW. Pours a lightly hazy golden with orange notes and a large bubbly/creamy white head that laced. Aroma was wonderfully floral and mixed citrus. Saison spiciness was there. Bready along with a touch of wild yeast. Some earthy notes peaking through. Really wonderful aroma. Flavor was pretty much on par with the aroma. Like the dry bready mouthfeel. Of the Bruery beers I have had so far, this one stands out for sure!

Bottle and served in my big ole Tripel Karmeliet tulip: HUGE fluffy white heed over the top of an initial clean golden hue which by it’s nature left a lot of lace upon the glassware. Wonderful nose of herbal and grassy esters with just a touch of wild yeast vapours, spicy and earthy aromas hit the mark spot on. The taste is initially fruity and acidic with some woody notes supported by a layer of pale malts and rye bread snap. The finish is where you can pick up a hint of the development of wild yeast characteristics. While the rye component is not traditional, the rest of brew is very much in the rustic style I envision (minus the over carbonation, but then again it is better than being flat, you know). MIKEY LIKEY this very much, well done and perhaps the best of the Bruery brews I have had to date. (If made by Fantome or Dupont, this beer would average at least 3.9 methinks)
