Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 3, 2009 This stuff is awesome. It smells very perfumey and flowery, with maybe some spicy notes in the finish. The flavor is a great mix - some fruity notes, some funk, some notes of hoppy bitterness. No need to go through a list of whatever flavors in here (too many), but trust me, this is great stuff. bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 30, 2009 This stuff just got to ohio today. I am glad I chose this one over the autumn maple. Pours a reddish light cloudy brown with some rusty hues to it. The head on this is awesome. Never poured that big at all but it stuff around the entire beer and when the glass was swirled the creamy head grew in size. The rye comes through some in the aroma. There is some spiciness and a light funk that comes through. Not overly bretty though. Flavor had a nice bitterness to it and was very smooth drinking. There was some sweetness left in this one though even with the brett. The palate on this was one of the best i have felt too. Creamy and some sweetness which was weird for a saison but it still felt right for the beer. Well done. Cant wait to try the other bruery stuff. areyouinning (72), North Carolina, USA Sep 28, 2009 Yeasty, Spicy aroma from an "old time" mixed drink colored body and generous white lacing. Tart finish from a smooth, medium-bodied beer. I can taste the brettanomyces, but it doesn’t overpower the rye like it might. ditmier (1023), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 27, 2009 2008 Bottle - Pours pale tan with a fucken huge head...aroma is sticky and dry at the same time, spicy brett, malty grain...flavour is similar, thick chewy malt, honey, grain, floral spice and booze...I found this to be very tasty, I would buy this all the time if I could, but fundamentally, it defies what a Saison is...this is no more a saison as any other 9% ale...I would drink this in the middle of winter and be completely satisfied, but in the middle of summer, absolutely not... lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Sep 26, 2009 750mL bottle. An incredibly murky pale gold pour with a massively fluffy light-tan head. A subtle aroma that features some of the usual sour/funky Brett smells in addition to lemons & limes and some light floral qualities. Goes down big-bodied and creamy, yet crisp in some places. Sweet fruity flavors start things off taste-wise. There is a creamy chai tea middle followed by some funky/sour Brett and a touch of rye. A crisp, floral finish with some citrus. Interesting. Beaver (588), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Sep 22, 2009 750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark gold with a monstrous fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is wheaty malt, brett, metallic rye and some other spices.
The flavor is wheaty malts, some light sweet fruit, and brett leading to a medium bitter metallic finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with soft carbonation and is a bit watery.
Overall,a decent saison. More brett would be nice. I keep going back and forth between thinking its interesting and noticing off notes and not liking it.
Paulp (20), New Jersey, USA Sep 21, 2009 Poured cloudy gold with a medium white head, aroma of yeast, dry fruit, very little hops, and some spice with a dry finish. first saison, not too bad. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 20, 2009 Bottle from Premier. Slightly cloudy gold body, white head. Nose is honey, lemon, pepper, yeasty spices. Flavor is pepper, earthiness, some lemon, light soap. I don’t get much brett character but it’s still nice enough.
