| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 bottle poured a brown golden in color with a thick off white foamy head that stuck around for a while. aroma has yeast, wheat, nutmeg, rye, grass, and some herbs. light mouth feel with huge frothy carbonation. flavor hits right to the yeast, light acid, slight bitterness, grass, wet herbs, and spice. quite a wet herb cocktail thing countered with a dry brett funk. stefanje (960), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 24, 2008 750 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a slightly cloudy orange-gold color with an ample white head that had good retention. The aroma is rich with Belgian yeasts, red fruits, bananas and spices. The flavor is complex with white pepper, sour candy, biter walnuts, orange peel and Brett. The mouthfeel is full and malty--rather heavy for a saison. The finish is long with lingering biter walnuts, pepper and brett. Overall: One of the better US brewed saison style beers that I have tried. Recommended. (Re-rate note: the sediment at the bottom of this bottle is absolutely yummy, perhaps you should shake this one vigorously before opening to evenly distribute the lees through the beer.) biznizness (959), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2009 Good. A little too fizzy from the bottle conditioning, had to wait for that to come out. The rye was subtle, too subtle for me, since I am a rye fan. Overall, a good saison but not as fabulous as I thought it would be based on the other reviews. BeerBelcher (945), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Solid. This is the best sour beer I’ve had in quite awhile, and although the craft beer scene has been a bit of "Brettanomyces Gone Wild" over the past 18 months or so, I am still into it. And while this beer didn’t really strike me as funkly, and wasn’t a poster-child for Brett, it was sour and quite enjoyable.
It poured a hazy copper color with lively carbonation and a thick head. Aroma was dried fruit, rye-ness, sweetness, and some light sourness. Something akin to lemonade was in there too. Flavor was more of the same, with some citrus-ness and sour (that lemonade thing again), balanced with some nice bread-iness imparted by the rye and malt. Mouthfeel was a little puckery, but was generally pretty refreshing given all the flavor packed in there. In OH at least, the price on this beer is steep and the hype is over-the-top. However, this beer is quite pleasant and while I won’t be kicking back a bottle of this weekly, I am glad I had it.
Definitely recommended. Juelze (925), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Pous a hazy cloudy light golden color with medium thick white head. Aroma is of light citrus notes, slight musty yeasty, and light malt character. Taste is light citrus, light barnyard funk, some musty yeast, and light notes of light malt. Finish is pretty well carbonated with the effervescence being ever so bubbly. Finishes sweet with a funky finish showcasing the brett. First The Bruery beer and definitely love it! can8ianben (914), Pasadena, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Sweet and sour tones come together in this delicious brew. The rye gives it a rich earthy flavor and the Belgian yeast gives it a wonderful wildness. Even though it’s brewed in SoCal, it takes you back to the farmhouse style of Europe. Rich orange in color. Just a really top notch beer. Did not expect to like this one as much as I did. TampaBrew (907), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Pours a nice amber with a large cream colored head. Aroma sweet malts, spicy rye, funky brett, brown sugar and earth. Flavor is a great mix of spice, funk, tartness, apples, some grapes and earthy hops. I love this beer! steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Duvel in a Duvel glass? No, it’s Saison Rue by The Bruery! And it’s more and different than that comparable chaotic lacing, thick white head, and lively golden body of Duvel. My only complaint is that Saison Rue is too dry and bready and the sweetness that is there is somewhat like what one tastes from Pixy Stix. Otherwise, the well-carbonated, lightly creamy brew does great due to its awesomely balanced flavors. Very true to style and I do like the style.
