4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a bomber. Cloudy, golden body. Thin white head. Smells of yeasty, malty, clove goodness. Tastes sweet, but not as sweet as a normal saison. Lacing all the way down my pint glass.

Bottle to flute
Iíve been sitting on this one for a couple year. Iíve no idea why, but I pulled it out and decided that it was time to get it done. Lemon, yeast, light pepper, wheat, hay, leather, and earth. Itís a hazy, yellowish amber, with a 2 cm very bright white, long lasting, creamy head. Taste is apple, lemon, yeast, booze, and grains.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL bottle, poured into a snifter. The aroma is a robust, pinot noir / barrel - like note with supporting characters of citrus, rye bread, and an emerging banana and cream that comes out with some warmth, and a subtle floral hint. The beer pours mildly hazy with a bronze hue and a dense, white foam head that has moderate light retention and a mild lace. The taste is a medium bittersweet thatís nicely balanced, and a curious, light / medium light sour note. The syrupy texture is cut by a fizzy carbonation. The medium medium body is mostly bitter citrus / grapefruit with a toffee malt backbone. Notes of banana bread and a slight funk come through late. It finishes crisp with woody spice, banana, citrus peel, a dry resin, and some caramel. The aftertaste is dry and clean with rye bread qualities.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is dark fruits, belgian candy sugar, clove and sweet caramel malts. Taste is sweet malts paired with a well balanced bitterness that mellows out smoothly with some yeastiness. Some light spiciness on the tip. Appearance is a hazy gold/orange with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly. Interesting taste and well balanced overall.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Caramelized yeasty aroma. Flavor is more malty than most saisons. Somewhat spicy but not much. Almost a sweet, fruity, wet wool, barnyard, malty flavor. Very different saison. Good but also a bit odd at the same point. Was hoping for some tartness but none. Funk though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
With Z, on a miserable hot humid Friday afternoon on the patio, pours a dark clear golden color with a large beige head. Nose is lemony, and floral with funk. Taste is floral with good barnyard funk and balanced nicely between the citrus and floral notes. Finis is dry, long and ends on the same tasting notes. 👍 Qaff Score 8 / 10

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 13, 2015 As The Bruery Saison Rue, 75 cl bottle at 9.5% ABV, is this really the same beer like the site claims? Anyway: an attempt at strong saison by this famed brewery, pouring a beautifully warm and deep, glowing peachy orange blonde colour, lightly hazy, misty with deposit, bearing a firm, lacing, off-white head, thinning under influence of the alcohol but still retaining well. Aroma has a lot of blood orange, rosehip tea, freshly fermented farmland, a weird chlorine-like smell, moscatel wine, marmelade, vanilla, cognac, galanga, overripe or even almost rotting peach and a whiff of pink grapefruit. Candied orange sweetness in the mouth, strawberry jam and honey sweetness as well, lean and supple body, bit bready and oily, caramelly malt sweetness, finishing in herbal hoppiness, bittering but gently so, with primarily lingering caramel malt sweetness, juicy, paired with noticeable alcohol heat, brandy- and liqueur-like, but not becoming astringent. Interesting and characterful beer, very rich sipper, but closer to a Belgian-style barley wine (if such a thing exists) than to actual saison. But then, how is saison even defined these days? I am still pondering about that, now that every serious brewery in the western world seems to have one...
