Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Huge golden pour with a foamy white head. The head lingers and leaves some fat lacing behind when it finally goes. Aroma of flowers, sour funk, bubblegum. The flavor strikes me as a bit imbalanced. Up front there are some nice sour fruit/earthy spice notes, but the finish is far too bitter. I think the combination of rye and whatever hops they are using here overpower the better, funky aspects of beer. Still quite good, but not perfectly balanced.

Draft at the source on 6/26/2016. Golden with a white head. Heavy lacing. Aroma is funk, wild yeast, some fruitiness. Taste is similar to nose, with some spiciness. A touch of white pepper. Overall, it’s a bit more bland than expected.

A simple but delicious beer. A light feeling throughout that belies the high alcohol, which didn’t really hit until I finished the whole bottle. Beautiful beer during the intense rainstorm.

Poured from a 5 year old bottle that I lost track of in my cellar. Aroma is sweet with caramel, honey and some burnt sugar. Some light spicy, herbal notes. Light toast. Hints of citrus with a woodsy, herbal, earthy note as well. Some light stone fruit, red apple and pear esters. Pours a hazy, murky brown color with some copper and amber hues and a medium large, fairly thick, slightly tan head that recedes fairly quickly to a thin film that lingers for quite some time. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is similar to the aroma with a moderately strong sweetness with some light acidity. Quite a bit of caramel with some lighter honey notes and burnt sugar. Some lighter toasted bread and rye notes. A moderate bitterness with a medium light spicy, herbal note. Hints of fruity esters and some citrus. A light earthy note and a hint of alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but noticeable alcohol warmth. Overall, this beer is definitely past its prime, but is interesting. Its difficult to tell form the age what it was like fresh and its been a very long time since I had a fresh bottle; probably 2011. The age is off putting, but also enticing so its just weird. I was expecting more funk, but there is very little. Instead, the malt dominates the flavor and aroma.

Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Smells funky with hints of stone fruits. Taste is funk, hay, white fruits and stone fruits. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and lively mouth-carbonation, Bruery Saison Rue finishes with a lingering subtle funk.

75cl bottle. Golden hazy with big head. The beer has strong apricot, banana, pepper aroma with sponge cake and some little, enriching wine wine (nail polish) thing in the background. Aroma is fruity and sweet. There are also notes of orange zest, fresh apple and some little acacia honey. So far so good. The beer has a strong carbonation but still easy to swallow. The body has an oily texture but still can be perceived as thin. When it comes to taste I was expecting more acidity or dryness but the beer is charming with a strong Belgian profile that I was longing for a while now. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. Easy to drink and well rounded, rich flavor. Nice stuff.

Bottle at the Growler Spot. Clear amber with resilient off-white head. Aroma of brett, mustiness, light citrus peel, and rye. Tastes funky and lightly bitter. Medium bodied and dry. Very solid.

Bomber. Attractive hazy golden orange body with pillowy white head. Active legs. Wonderful aroma of farmyard funk, horse blanket, classic saison qualities. Flavor mimics the aroma. Rye is subtle but it enhances the beer. Excellent and one of the best beers I’ve tried in a while.

Spritzy nose with a touch of cereal and lemon. Nicely balanced maltiness, bitterness, and sourness with a slight stone fruit flavor. Medium light body. Feels warm as it goes down, even though it’s only 8.5%. Lasting bitter-sour finish. A wonderful beer. Refreshing, but full of complexity.

Floral, raspberry, mild spice, and mild lemon aroma. Light copper, pale orange, white head, and decent lacing. Medium bodied, fruity, mild oats, and mild lemon notes. Silky, medium bitterness, and lite dryness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
