Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Refreshing citrusy aroma. The flavour is citrus, bread and a little spicy. I would have expected more rye flavour. Very balanced but maybe a little plain and boring.

Caramelized yeasty aroma. Flavor is more malty than most saisons. Somewhat spicy but not much. Almost a sweet, fruity, wet wool, barnyard, malty flavor. Very different saison. Good but also a bit odd at the same point. Was hoping for some tartness but none. Funk though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

With Z, on a miserable hot humid Friday afternoon on the patio, pours a dark clear golden color with a large beige head. Nose is lemony, and floral with funk. Taste is floral with good barnyard funk and balanced nicely between the citrus and floral notes. Finis is dry, long and ends on the same tasting notes. 👍 Qaff Score 8 / 10

Bomber. Pours a clear golden yellow with a white head and aroma of fruits, spices, and hops. Taste is of spices, funk, and yeast with a nice hoppy, citrus, fruity, malt character leading to a spicy, dry finish

As The Bruery Saison Rue, 75 cl bottle at 9.5% ABV, is this really the same beer like the site claims? Anyway: an attempt at strong saison by this famed brewery, pouring a beautifully warm and deep, glowing peachy orange blonde colour, lightly hazy, misty with deposit, bearing a firm, lacing, off-white head, thinning under influence of the alcohol but still retaining well. Aroma has a lot of blood orange, rosehip tea, freshly fermented farmland, a weird chlorine-like smell, moscatel wine, marmelade, vanilla, cognac, galanga, overripe or even almost rotting peach and a whiff of pink grapefruit. Candied orange sweetness in the mouth, strawberry jam and honey sweetness as well, lean and supple body, bit bready and oily, caramelly malt sweetness, finishing in herbal hoppiness, bittering but gently so, with primarily lingering caramel malt sweetness, juicy, paired with noticeable alcohol heat, brandy- and liqueur-like, but not becoming astringent. Interesting and characterful beer, very rich sipper, but closer to a Belgian-style barley wine (if such a thing exists) than to actual saison. But then, how is saison even defined these days? I am still pondering about that, now that every serious brewery in the western world seems to have one...

Aroma: Roasted caramel, candy sugar. Flavor: Like a well-blended triple with candy sugar, bready, "rye."

On tap at Bruery. Pour is hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is peach, apple, and funky/spicy yeast. Flavor shows stone fruit, biscuit, ginger, white pepper, and funk. Overall body is light to moderate and the finish is spicy/dry.

Bottle from Deconinck, Vichte - BE. Color: hazy amber beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell : sour, farmhouse style. Fruity notes as apricot and peach. Bettranomynes yeast finish. Taste: good malt taste, nice sweet attack well balanced with the apricot taste. Sour yeast finish. Aftertaste: astringent and dry, small sweet finish. Really nice beer!

Bomber. Fruity blast in the nose -- sweet apples, light peach, bit of banana, and some light funk. Bright golden straw color. Smooth sugary fruit, mid-palate fizz-up of rye and peach, brief bout of sweetness, and then settles. Pleasant, not so funky. Tastes vaguely like a tripel.
