COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
French for "without a paddle", Sans Pagaie is our take on a Belgian Kriek. We added an incredible amount of cherries (whole and pureed) to this sour blonde ale and then we decided to add more. The result is a well balanced fruited sour ale, perfect on it’s own, even better with a slice of chocolate cake. 5.8% ABV, Cellerable for up to 3 years.
Note: this is a different beer than the limited Bruery Sour Cherry Kriek

Poured from a 2013 vintage bottle. Aroma is slightly sweet with a cherry pie character. Moderate acidity with some light oak and malt notes. You can pick up some of the blonde ale under the cherry character. Not much funk and no earthiness. Light tropical fruit and citrus. Pours a slightly hazy pinkish gold with a medium sized, fairly thin, white head that recedes quickly to a film that clings to the edges. Flavor is fairly tart, but it is again balanced by some sweet cherry character. Tart cherry is present as well. Hints of oak with some light make notes. Here the base blonde ale is less noticeable. Again not much funk or earthiness, but nice cherry character. Hints of tropical fruit and citrus. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice sour cherry beer. Lots of cherry flavor and aroma with nice complexity. Good tropical fruit, citrus and oak notes, but it lacks the earthy, herbal funkiness that classic versions of krieks have.

Bottle @ Home. Great Cherry nose. Big lacto, vinegar notes. Really big sour, oh so very sour, silly how sour this is. One of the most puckering beers I’ve ever had. Like a cherry Warhead. Fantastic.

750 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. 2014 Edition bottled on 4/7/2014, 6% ABV. Murky reddish orange with 1.5 fingers of off-white head that fades fairly quickly. Aromas of tart cherries, cherry juice, oak, vinegar, funk. Tastes of juicy tart cherries, spices, a little herb, big mouth puckering sour/acidic notes. Medium-light body with a very dry finish.

Sampled at the Kick Starter event at the Humboldt Cider Company to help fund their new tasting room. Poured a cloudy golden color with white head. Moderate lacing. Nose of sour fruit. Medium body. Smooth mouth feel. Flavor is fruit and funk, with a long sour finish. Perfect for a sour fan like me.

750 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a hazy dark golden/amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have big sour cherries, additional tart berry notes, acidic, musty wood, some funk, but the tart/sour acidic cherry dominates this, even though the sour notes are forward this was easy to drink.

Bottle at Craftheads. Nice cherry aroma, first sip is very tart, mouth drying. Lots of fruit, decent sourness, maybe not so much else. Refreshing and easy drinking. Good.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a hazy dark golden color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy tart fruit and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer for style.

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a hazy full apricot with off-white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells good too; tart cherries with notes of brett, funk, and oak. Tastes like it smells with a pleasant medium-bodied mouthfeel. Good beer!
