French for "without a paddle", Sans Pagaie is our take on a Belgian Kriek. We added an incredible amount of cherries (whole and pureed) to this sour blonde ale and then we decided to add more. The result is a well balanced fruited sour ale, perfect on itís own, even better with a slice of chocolate cake. 5.8% ABV, Cellerable for up to 3 years.
Note: this is a different beer than the limited Bruery Sour Cherry Kriek

Poured from a 2013 vintage bottle. Aroma is slightly sweet with a cherry pie character. Moderate acidity with some light oak and malt notes. You can pick up some of the blonde ale under the cherry character. Not much funk and no earthiness. Light tropical fruit and citrus. Pours a slightly hazy pinkish gold with a medium sized, fairly thin, white head that recedes quickly to a film that clings to the edges. Flavor is fairly tart, but it is again balanced by some sweet cherry character. Tart cherry is present as well. Hints of oak with some light make notes. Here the base blonde ale is less noticeable. Again not much funk or earthiness, but nice cherry character. Hints of tropical fruit and citrus. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice sour cherry beer. Lots of cherry flavor and aroma with nice complexity. Good tropical fruit, citrus and oak notes, but it lacks the earthy, herbal funkiness that classic versions of krieks have.

Pretty red in color with a deep cherry aroma. Flavor is sour with a musty cherry blanket, sour grapes, and a heavy but pleasant finish.

Bottle: The aroma consists of cherries, light cola, vinegar, sour lemon, and just a hint of acetone. Itís a mostly transparent reddish-orange with a small white head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of moderate sweet cherry with light cola and a hint of caramel. The finish has moderate-heavy sour lemon, light tart cherry, and a touch of acetone. Itís light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Like many of their sours, I just donít find much complexity here. Citrus sour, just like the rest of them. Not as abrasive as some.

750 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. 2014 Edition bottled on 4/7/2014, 6% ABV. Murky reddish orange with 1.5 fingers of off-white head that fades fairly quickly. Aromas of tart cherries, cherry juice, oak, vinegar, funk. Tastes of juicy tart cherries, spices, a little herb, big mouth puckering sour/acidic notes. Medium-light body with a very dry finish.

Pours a strawberry blonde. Aromas of oak and tart fruit. Taste is extremely tart. Flavors of soured fruit, yogurt, oak. This will remove the fucking enamel from your teeth. Kind of vinegar-y. Finish is super tart. Wow. Not the best but extremely sour.

Sampled at the Kick Starter event at the Humboldt Cider Company to help fund their new tasting room. Poured a cloudy golden color with white head. Moderate lacing. Nose of sour fruit. Medium body. Smooth mouth feel. Flavor is fruit and funk, with a long sour finish. Perfect for a sour fan like me.

Bottle @ Home. Great Cherry nose. Big lacto, vinegar notes. Really big sour, oh so very sour, silly how sour this is. One of the most puckering beers Iíve ever had. Like a cherry Warhead. Fantastic.
