French for "without a paddle", Sans Pagaie is our take on a Belgian Kriek. We added an incredible amount of cherries (whole and pureed) to this sour blonde ale and then we decided to add more. The result is a well balanced fruited sour ale, perfect on it’s own, even better with a slice of chocolate cake. 5.8% ABV, Cellerable for up to 3 years.
Note: this is a different beer than the limited Bruery Sour Cherry Kriek

A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a 1/2 –finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a bright, red, almost pink, tinged gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, pale red tinged, copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of lactic acid, light cherry skins, a touch of yogurt like character, a hint of woody mushroom, and perhaps a hint of grain character. After the second, murkier pour, the beer gets a touch yeasty, and perhaps a touch of hay like grain.

The beer is amply tart, and has a bright fruitiness that leans more towards pomegranate, tropical fruit skin notes, some cherry skin notes and a light cherry fruit flavor. Very cleanly lactic, with an almost yogurt like flavor. There is a persistent, medium level of carbonation here that adds some prickly texture to this quite light bodied beer; there is a touch of lactic slickness here that keeps this from being watery.

Quite clean tasting, lightly fruity, lactic and quite tart. A good beer, that is technically well executed, but lacks dimensionality, depth, and / or complexity that would make it a great beer.

"could be classed as a fruit lambic too i suppose. looks like a slightly lighter colered fruit punch. the white heady disappears rather quick, but the carbonation level is really good, and great for this style. fairly aggressively sour with the cherries definiteky making their presence known on the back end. great lingering finish. very bright aroma, and especially flavor."

Bottle: Cloudy copper body, muddled. The fizzling head is literally completely gone before I can even decide what color it is. Aroma with some light must, damp cotton blanket, acidic & sharp cherry skins, hefty vinegar, a bit of perfume & floral notes, some yogurty lacto. Extremely sour flavor. WOW. Balsamic vinegar, white wine vinegar, underripe cherry skin, lemon flesh, acetic & lactic acid assault the palate & tear up the gum line in an instant. I get a little bit of strawberry alongside the cherry, too. A touch of musty wood toward the finish as the insane tartness finally subsides. Acidic, sharp finish with hints of yogurt, cherry, & vinegar. The masochist in me actually enjoys certain sourness to the extend that my face implodes in upon itself much like a dying star. Such is the case, here. So if you like ass puckeringly tart shit, this is to die for. Not very "Belgian", but sour as fuck.

750 ml bottle shared with the Quebec City crew. Pours a cloudy pinkish pale orange with a short lived orange head. Aroma is sour, orange, cherry. Flavor is sugar, cherry, acid, vinegar. Finish is acid and acetic. Loads of lingering tartness. Medium body, weak to average carbonation.

Pours a beautiful hazy pink with an off-white head and lacing. It has a tart aroma with a bit of malt and some cherry. The flavor is tart fruit and malt up front with a cherry middle and balanced finish over a medium-might body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample thanks to BuckeyeBoy. Pours out pale pinkish tinge with minimal foamy head. Fruity aroma, sweet and not too tart. Taste is cherry jam , a hint of yeast, and lots of dry tartness. Finish is bone dry, but overall halfway between a kriek and a sour. Nice.

Bottleshare thanks to DrewFace. Pours an orange amber color. White head. Aroma if tart sourness, just a hint of cherries. Taste is light, tart, sour, refreshing. Pretty darn drinkable.

Lightly hazy orange color, minimal white head. Big tart, funky aroma, some acidic notes, some fruity notes. Very sour, acidic. Some funky barnyardy notes as well, cherries come thru but mostly dominated by sour. Dry and tasty overall.

Crimson gold red. Nose is acidic cherry juice. Taste is super sour very acidic a touch of balsamic and cherry. No where close to a Belgian kriek. Still, not horrible
