French for "without a paddle", Sans Pagaie is our take on a Belgian Kriek. We added an incredible amount of cherries (whole and pureed) to this sour blonde ale and then we decided to add more. The result is a well balanced fruited sour ale, perfect on it’s own, even better with a slice of chocolate cake. 5.8% ABV, Cellerable for up to 3 years.
Note: this is a different beer than the limited Bruery Sour Cherry Kriek

A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a 1/2 –finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a bright, red, almost pink, tinged gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, pale red tinged, copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of lactic acid, light cherry skins, a touch of yogurt like character, a hint of woody mushroom, and perhaps a hint of grain character. After the second, murkier pour, the beer gets a touch yeasty, and perhaps a touch of hay like grain.

The beer is amply tart, and has a bright fruitiness that leans more towards pomegranate, tropical fruit skin notes, some cherry skin notes and a light cherry fruit flavor. Very cleanly lactic, with an almost yogurt like flavor. There is a persistent, medium level of carbonation here that adds some prickly texture to this quite light bodied beer; there is a touch of lactic slickness here that keeps this from being watery.

Quite clean tasting, lightly fruity, lactic and quite tart. A good beer, that is technically well executed, but lacks dimensionality, depth, and / or complexity that would make it a great beer.

Pours redish-pink, almost like strawberry lemonade. Half a finger head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is very much sour cherries, hay, Brett, and baked bread. Taste is incredibly sour that comes on strong and dominates the first portion of the tasting experience. Once the sour dissipates some, hints of cherry, oak, apricot, citrus, and floral notes come through. The cherries linger the longest and is quite pleasant. The flavors seemed to compete with one another instead of complimenting...Rueze accomplishes this better. Perhaps cellaring for awhile longer would balance it out more. Moderate mouth feel. Good beer overall. Not The Bruery's best, but would never turn down. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2013 bottle. Fresh fruit (cherry & raspberry), oaky, soured yeast.

Melons, cherry, mild sweetness before getting swept away by the highly acidity. Puckering, to say the least; right up my alley. Perfect carb; delicious.

750ml bottle. Always love the chance to try a Bruery sour and this one did not disappoint. Murky amber body with a bit of head. Aromas of stone fruit, oak, bready malt, funky Belgian yeast. Flavors of oak, cherry, yogurt - finishes with a sour linger.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy reddish color with a white head that rims the glass. Sour cherry notes in the nose along with lemon zest. Medium/light mouthfeel. Zesty, slightly funky, and cherry. The cherry isn’t as pronounced in the taste as it is in the nose. Easy drinking. Lacks some depth but pretty good!

750ml bottle. Pours a ruby red with zero head. Strong sour cherry aroma. Not much taste from the oak just sour Cherries.

Had this at Where The Wild Beers Are. Pours a hazed amber with a thin white head. Funk, light acetone, chewy malt. Light acid, toast. Chewy acid with a bunch of funk. Long tartness with some wooden overtones.

750 ml bottle courtesy of mencansail. Thanks, Andrew. Finally got around to opening this. Pour a well hazed really almost murky golden amber hue, darker with some reddish haze. Frothy whitish head dies to a film, lingers as loose bubbles atop, mellow lacing. Aromas are oak, bready malts, and pitty cherries. Cherryskin, lemon and yogurt. Touches of bready malt, Belgian yeast and a growing funky quality as it warms. Initial is firmly sour up front, grapefruit and cherries, lemon, some sweet tarts. Lime, yogurt, cherryskin and pitty cherries. Sour cherries, wet oak and some yogurt. We start to hit the middle and the sourness prevails. Spritzy and citrusy meets some more tannic cherry into the backend. Spritzy, some bready and straw malt presence still show a bit. Oak, good yogurty presence, some funk and some vibrant grapefruit rind, sour white grapes. Pretty sour punch up front and into the middle tapers off a bit as we round into the backend. More tannic cherry, oak and yogurt back there. Straw, spritzy carbonation and some mellow funky brett dry this out a bit more. Grapefruit, wet oak, and dryness, lingering cherryskin and fruit. Vibrant. Not acedic, but that punch up front is assertive. Quite tasty, good flow from the front to back. Nice fresh and vibrant grapefruit with cherries, lemon and lactic presence. Mellow oak, mellow funk. Nice beer, I think. Cherry lemonade. The nose was a bit small, but the beer itself really delivered for me. I wouldn’t call it complex, but it certainly offers the flavors and experience I desire.

Aroma is lemon, leather, only slight sour cherries. Glowing pinkish gold. No real head or lacing, but it is a truly unique color that is ver inviting. Taste is lemony sour, slight cherries, mostly just lasting sour. Pretty clean, crisp. I like it.

High 5 to bman1113vr for bringing this one to me for Formula 1 weekend. 2012 bottle, happily enjoyed in April of 2013. Copper, reddish pour with a white head. Nose was light cherry, fresh oak, wine barrel, lovely tartness, pedio. Flavor is super tart and sour, faint friend cherry pies, oak, great beer! incredibly bone dry with an effervescent mouthfeel. Fantastic!!! Look forward to having some more of this guy.
