Shegöat is a brand new beer to our lineup, based on one of Patrick’s original, multiple award winning homebrew recipes. Based primarily on the traditional weizenbock style of Germany, brewed with both malted barley and wheat, the beer is rich in the flavors of bananas, cloves and caramel with a notes of cake spice hovering in the background. Just like the banana bread that großmutter used to make.

Bottle... Hazy dirty-orange pour with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma features vanilla and winter spices. Full-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. The flavor is a mélange of rich toffee, vanilla and graham malts, accompanied by seasonal spice rack fun and a nice, acidic/mildly tart component. Finishes tangy, malty and minerally. Bottle shared with the south Florida crew by biggsbowler!

750ml bottle - thanks martjoobolut
Sweet aroma, some banana, but some blackcurrant berries. Blandish taste, just some banana strings. Dry bitter finish. Later some acetone. Sweet, sticky palate. Pleasantish, but nothing particularly special. Alcohol present later. Gimme a Vitus, please, rather than this.

Hazy brown amber beer, small white head. Nose is creamy, fruity, wheaty, caramel, sugar, banana. Flavor is caramel, fruit, banana, malt, candi sugar, raisiny notes. Lingering caramel and plummy notes, some alcohol. Hides the booze well, palate on the lighter side, so it’s dangerously drinkable.

Tasted at La Capsule (Nancy - France). Dark amber body with mahogany reflections headed by a fine dark beige foam, not lasting. Aroma of malt, caramel, candi, nuts. Taste is similar in addition to banana. Really enjoyable. Well balanced.

A steady pour into my teku glass produces a two finger thick, creamed amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated amber / brown color that shows a mostly clear rich amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells rich and malty up front with a fruity, somewhat berry and plum like character towards the middle and finish of the aroma, and there is also a light spiciness here. If you take a big whiff of the nose you can find a rich, toasted, nutty character underneath the bright fruit aromatics. There is a lightly herbal spiciness that adds some balancing notes to the up front sweet, rich malt and fruity fermentation character.

Sweet, rich, and somewhat chewy textured. The beer lingers on the palate in the finish with a sweet malt viscosity. The finish has some bitterness towards the front of it, and a lingering dark malt astringency that lightly peppers the tongue. There is a solid nutty character here that leans towards toasted hazelnuts that pervasively infuses the flavor of this beer from beginning to end. The fruitiness from the nose is reduced, and it has a burnt edge to it due to the light roasted malt notes that are found in this beer. As the beer warms up the fruity character becomes more noticeable up front; this is wrapped up in the rich, sweet malt character, but still suggest of concentrated plums and raisins. A touch of warming alcohol comes out towards the finish at times.

This has a bit more fruit character from the fermentation than I might have expected. This is really quite enjoyable though, it is like a rich, chewy, dark Bock, but with a fruity edge to it. Definitely serves as a nice way to slowly end a long day. Very satisfying, and I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did.
