Shegöat is a brand new beer to our lineup, based on one of Patrick’s original, multiple award winning homebrew recipes. Based primarily on the traditional weizenbock style of Germany, brewed with both malted barley and wheat, the beer is rich in the flavors of bananas, cloves and caramel with a notes of cake spice hovering in the background. Just like the banana bread that großmutter used to make.

First bottle of the night for #bottlecherwednesdays at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. 750ml poured into tulip. Liquid is reddish brown with some cloudiness, a tall tan head forms than fades slowly to a film. Streaks of lace are left behind. Aroma is caramel, banana, clove, and spice cake. Taste is medium-high sweet with caramel and fruity esters. A small amount of spicy bitterness comes on the swallow. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, slightly bitter finish with lingering sweetness.

Draft. Brown pour. Some dark malts, bock tones. Light fruit and malt flavors. Boring, but with a weizen bock not too suprised.

Bottle: Dark, ruddy copper & brown with some sharp ruby edges. Big, foamy, khaki head nimbly sits on top. Aroma of prunes covered in caramel sauce, sweet CaraMunich malt overdose, mildly vinous red grape (almost like a trappist ale) with lighter finishings of Belgian yeast, clove, & some spice. Lots of that deep prune & red grape in the flavor; again, similar to the vinous aspects of a dark trappist ale or quad. Caramel malt, residual Candi sugars, toffee, light prune juice, & a hint of doughy & spicy Belgian yeast. Sweet, but controlled pretty well. Lightly sticky body. Finish of sweet caramel & moderately vinous grape skin. Not bad.

Murky brown pour with ample head and lacing. Big aroma of banana, clove, plum, and other spice. Body is bigger than usual with a little booze showing (it’s one fault). Flavor is big too...similar to the aroma and just a bit heavier than is typical for the style. Cool to compare to Deschutes, who also just brewed a big Weizenbock. They get the nod, but this was damn good too

Bottle shared at chriso’s May 2014 tasting - London. Pours lightly hazy ruby-amber with a creamy white head. The aroma has toasted wheat, dough, banana and toffee. Medium sweet flavor with sugary candies, ripe banana, yeasty wheat, toasted sugars. Medium bodied with average carbonation and creamy texture. Lightly warming on the finish with sugary wheat bread, light caramel and more bruised bananas. Tasty w-bock.

Bottle@Yesprs (21/03/2014) - amber pour with off-white head. Toasty malty aroma and taste, sweet yeasts, caramel, spices, cloves, banana and faint herbal notes.

Pours a dark amber color with a banana aroma. Taste is of baked banana bread with a clean hops film left on the tongue. A minor spice and cloves flavor that gave in to the banana taste. I could not taste any sweet flavor but was pleasantly delighted with its mixture of flavor.

Tasting at the ever gracious ChrisO’s. Very hazy reddish amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and crispy. Tangy caramel malts. Dried fruits. Whispers of brandy.and esters in the dry finish. Slightly odd but okay.
