COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

Bottle shared with my brother and brother in-law. Pours opaque, thin off white khaki head that recedes to a ring. No lacing. Nose is bourbon and spicy, vanilla and mainly smoke. Tastes sweet, malty, vanilla, boxy, bourbon, hot, spice and smoky, but so well balanced. I’don’t like smoke beers but this is really good.

-Short review- Black with impressive tan head. Aroma is a good mix between peat and smoke malt. Round palate reminding of speed way stout. Balanced finish. Not to harsh. Overall: Very enjoyable.

Dark opaque burnt umber color. Small layer of a head. Toasty roasted licorice and coffee bean aroma. Chocolate, smooth, roasted coffee with vanilla and a smoked nice aftertaste. Loving it!!!

Thick black pour with thin cocoa colored head. Smells of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, smoke, and sweet malts. The chocolate middle of this beer is outstanding, completely offsets the bourbon and smoke, giving it layers in flavor. Excellent.

Pours a slid lack with a brown head and lacing. It has a rich aroma of bourbon, toast, and some smoke. The flavor is agent bourbon and toasty malt up front with a chocolate middle and toasty, smokey finish over a heavy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(draft @ Local Option - Chicago, IL) Dark black pour with a thin tan head. Big sweet vanilla and bourbon aroma. Lots of caramel and oak along with the roasted malts. Flavor is an amazing combination of smoke, roasted malts, oak, vanilla and bourbon. Outstanding.

Sample at the tap room. Pours a deep brownish color with a medium brown head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Smoky aroma with bourbon and malt notes. Full-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, oaky bourbon and vanilla. The finish is charred oak and bourbon. Pretty good overall.

Not exactly a Rauchbier, there is a definite smokiness that is more noticeable in aroma than flavor. Oak and red fruits are moderately balanced by spicy rye and vanilla. Finish is ultra dry from alcohol, ash, and rye. Much better than anticipated.
