COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

6oz draft pour. Dark, perhaps black color with a dark tan head. Aroma was smoke notes, roasted, perhaps burnt malts, some oak notes. Smoky meat character. Booze is noticeable. Flavor is similar, with notes of smoke, oak notes, burnt malts. Interesting.

Bottle dark pour with brown edges, small tan head. Smell of vanilla and casky bourbon. Taste is vanilla caramel and a bit of chocolate. Noticeable alcohol burn. Good but high powered

Bottle. Black. Bourbon aroma with faint spice and smoke. The taste follows with vanilla and coffee notes and just enough smoke to be subtle but interesting. Extremely balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Capped 750 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon and maybe rye spice. And maybe smoke. Med + body. Flavor is very mixed. Bourbon seems first, followed by chocolate, rye and cherry, finally oak/wood. And smoke all the time. This is pretty delicious stuff, and the heat is rather minimal. It finishes towards dry, but not very. Smoke lingers on.

Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours very dark brown with rapidly settling tan head. Aroma is huge bourbon, caramelized sugars, oak, vanilla, smoky, beechwood. Flavor is big caramelized sugar and sweet bourbon, big oak, with sweet toffee, nutty, bourbon finish. Alcohol is well hidden as expected. The bourbon barrel helps balance the rye malt, even better than the original rendition. Soft carbonation, medium-full body, and smooth texture.

8/10/2014. From bottle. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Sweet oaky aromas with licorice and roasted malt. Flavors are sticky, sweet bourbon with a hint of smoke. The high alcohol content is almost completely masked. Chocolate, licorice, roasted malt with a long sappy sweet finish.

A very well done smoked porter. First taste of bourbon, sweet, then a bacon flavored finish. Almost black in color with a tan head. Had at Jerry's sandwiches. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
