COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

Wow sums up this beer. Big hits of bourbon and chocolate with an ending of smoke. Sip this one and enjoy it as it gets better with warmth.

Black pour with a very thin ring of beige head .... Aroma of smoke, light tobacco, spicy rye, coconut, oak, bourbon and booze .... Taste is of vanilla, oak, very spicy rye bite, with some coconut, roasted and chocolate malts with a boozy warming to it ... Finish is dry bitter and chocolatey with a lingering spicy and boozy bite .... Very complex lots of depth definitely better than the rye version

Bottle. Poured dark brown color with an average light brown frothy head that was mostly lasting with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark malt, smoke, bourbon wood and alcohol aroma. Copious body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bourbon complex sweet smoked flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Complex standout beer.

750 ml bottle to taster (2014 vintage; shared by Tmoney99). Looks good; a mostly opaque dull dark cola with foamy beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells good; oak, smoke, bourbon, and a bit of spice. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Damn good, and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle. Dark black pour, small ring of carbonation and an aroma of dark chocolate and noticeable bourbon. Flavor is silky chocolate, plenty of earthy peat, sweet soy sauce and notes of vanilla on the aftertaste. Pretty damn good.
