Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

July 1st Sunday. One of the better smoked beers Iíve ever had mostly due to the rye and the bourbon keeping the smoke in its place. Nicely balanced beer considering the massive flavors pulling each way. Oak, vanilla, and spiced rye all play their parts well.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy smoke, moderate bourbon, wood, rye, light black licorice, and alcohol. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a minimal beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate sweet chocolate, caramel, and molasses. The finish has moderate smoke, bourbon, black licorice, rye, and oak. Itís full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat oily mouthfeel.

Bottle share thanks to Taylor. A ton of booze in the nose. Of course. A light smokiness but not overpowering. Taste is booze and chocolate with a touch of roast. Solid. A lot less smoke than I expected.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, lightly smoked malts, some roast and chocolate from the malts, and light caramel. Flavor the same with a great blend of bourbon, the lightly smoked malts, and dark malts. Smooth texture. A good beer.

Pours black with a thin mocha head. Aroma has dark fruits, roasty caramelized brown sugars and subtle but firm smoke. Flavor has mild boozy bourbon, great sweet roastiness and awesome smoke!! Fuck!! Mouthfeel is foreplay and the finish is sex.

Pours a lovely dark chocolate body with a mocha head. Smells of bourbon and smoked malt. Tastes of sweet malt with a nice smokey flavor thatís offset with the bourbon. Goes down easy with a hint of a bite.
