COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

On tap; dark brown in color. Aroma of molasses and soy, with some sweetness and vanilla. Flavor had the same components, and for the style and alcohol content this was quite drinkable.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas’s place. Thanks zvikar. Black with a thin tan head. Slightly smoked, cherry heering and chocolate aroma, with notes of roses and vanilla. A little smoked sausage in the mouth, some iodine and sea salt, sweet, too. Full body, a little fruity and alcoholic mouthfeel, very heavy and good.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks zvikar. Pours deep brown black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, wood, smoke, sour vinous notes. Taste - sweet with flavors of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, wood, alcohol, dried fruits, coconut. Rather full bodied, oily texture, very complex. Great beer.

Pours a very dark brown with little to no light coming through and little to no head(not surprising with a 14 percent beer). Aroma is bourbon, roasted malts, spicy rye, smoked malts, and vanilla. Flavour is bourbon, spicy bready rye, vanilla, mild bitterness and and light warming alcohol. We’ll done 14 point beer!

Pours an inky jet black with a medium brown head... Leaves nice legs up the glass. Aroma of bourbon, wood, peat, campfire, vanilla and some spicy rye malts. Wonderful aroma with a delicate balance and a beautiful bouquet of aromas. Taste is roasted malts, spicy rye malts, bourbon, campfire, peat, old wood, vanilla and a sweet and boozy finish. Big complex beer with a lot of flavors and a big alcohol burn on the finish...not harsh but could be smoothed out more. I otherwise a big complex beer hats a nice winter sipper.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a light tan mocha head. Less carb than expected. Smoky notes (duh) with an underlying molasses and roast note. Heavy mouthfeel. Sweet, dark chocolate, caramel, and then the smoke ntes hit. Balances nicely with the sweetness. Leather as well. Ends with a slight bitterness. Decent but a little too sweet.

Bottled. Pours black with an average, lacing tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, wood, vanilla, caramel, bourbon and smoke. Sweet flavor that ends up dry, slightly bitter with alcohol. Medium bodied, oilytexture and soft carbonation. An excellent Smoked.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas’s place. Thanks zvikar. Black with a brown head. Lovely aroma full of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor with dark chocolate, bourbon, a bit of alcohol, mild smokiness and an alcoholic touch. Full-bodied, a bit too boozy. Great.

24th Jan 2015: shared bottle at the Cotteridge Wine meet. Cracking beer! Poured black with thin tanned head. The nose was singed and smoked malts with whiskey hints, like a smouldering Irish Peat Bog. The taste was sweeter than the aroma indicated with the malt giving some caramel and toffee flavours, still smoky with some whiskey notes too. One of the best beers of the day for me.

Bottled, sampled at The Cotteridge Convention, many thanks to s_hartsorne for this one. Black with tan head. Full and sweet fruitiness, caramel, toffee’d but not overly so, there is a smoky backwoods type flavour, decent conditioning, loads of stuff going on. Blimey.
