COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

Served in a Bruery tulip. Almost flat. Nose is better than Rye Whiskey and without as much smoke. Chocolate and roast. Quite a bit of alcohol.

Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours very dark brown with rapidly settling tan head. Aroma is huge bourbon, caramelized sugars, oak, vanilla, smoky, beechwood. Flavor is big caramelized sugar and sweet bourbon, big oak, with sweet toffee, nutty, bourbon finish. Alcohol is well hidden as expected. The bourbon barrel helps balance the rye malt, even better than the original rendition. Soft carbonation, medium-full body, and smooth texture.

8/10/2014. From bottle. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Sweet oaky aromas with licorice and roasted malt. Flavors are sticky, sweet bourbon with a hint of smoke. The high alcohol content is almost completely masked. Chocolate, licorice, roasted malt with a long sappy sweet finish.

Pours a lovely dark chocolate body with a mocha head. Smells of bourbon and smoked malt. Tastes of sweet malt with a nice smokey flavor that’s offset with the bourbon. Goes down easy with a hint of a bite.Excellent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

July 1st Sunday. One of the better smoked beers I’ve ever had mostly due to the rye and the bourbon keeping the smoke in its place. Nicely balanced beer considering the massive flavors pulling each way. Oak, vanilla, and spiced rye all play their parts well.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy smoke, moderate bourbon, wood, rye, light black licorice, and alcohol. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a minimal beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate sweet chocolate, caramel, and molasses. The finish has moderate smoke, bourbon, black licorice, rye, and oak. It’s full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat oily mouthfeel.
