Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

Shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike. The beer is black with a thick, mocha colored head. The aroma offers smoke, roast, oak, booze, bread, salt, campfire, burning meats. The taste is equally complex. Nice smoke flavor mingling well with a bold and assertive bourbon character. Full bodied and rich. A bit sweet. Alcoholic warmth in the finish. A solid beer from The Bruery. Worth a try.

Thick black pour with thin cocoa colored head. Smells of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, smoke, and sweet malts. The chocolate middle of this beer is outstanding, completely offsets the bourbon and smoke, giving it layers in flavor. Excellent.

Pours a slid lack with a brown head and lacing. It has a rich aroma of bourbon, toast, and some smoke. The flavor is agent bourbon and toasty malt up front with a chocolate middle and toasty, smokey finish over a heavy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(draft @ Local Option - Chicago, IL) Dark black pour with a thin tan head. Big sweet vanilla and bourbon aroma. Lots of caramel and oak along with the roasted malts. Flavor is an amazing combination of smoke, roasted malts, oak, vanilla and bourbon. Outstanding.

Sample at the tap room. Pours a deep brownish color with a medium brown head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Smoky aroma with bourbon and malt notes. Full-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, oaky bourbon and vanilla. The finish is charred oak and bourbon. Pretty good overall.

Not exactly a Rauchbier, there is a definite smokiness that is more noticeable in aroma than flavor. Oak and red fruits are moderately balanced by spicy rye and vanilla. Finish is ultra dry from alcohol, ash, and rye. Much better than anticipated.

2014 edition bottle. Pours almost black. Initial light brown cap that vanishes to a medium rope. Thick bourbon barrel aroma upfront. Vanilla bean, coffee, smokey wood, plum, and more bourbon. Taste is very bourbon sweet and woody bitterness. Mouthfeel is sticky.

750ml capped bottle pours black in color with a finger and a half of brown head that retains well and leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and light roasted grains and alcohol. Taste is bourbon with vanilla and chocolate malty sweetness with a light roasted grain bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden in the taste. Medium bodied with decent carbonation that tingles the tongue nicely. This is a well crafted porter that definitely needs to be sampled.

From notes. Tasted some time near the summer of 2012 with the Nashville crew. Pours opaque dark brown with a thin tan head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is super smokey with coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, and a ton of maple bourbon barrel. The flavor is dark chocolate, maple, vanilla, coffee, and very smokey, but also nicely balanced. The body is full and oily with light carbonation and a long smokey maple bourbon finish.
