4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Very rich and heavy beer; was surprised that this vintage has such a high ABV. Opened a bottle for a friend who insisted he had never had a good smokey beer. Notes of caramel and chocolate, but most powerfully smokey with some sweetness. One of the best smoked beers Iíve ever had. The alcohol content and richness balances what would otherwise be overwhelming smokiness.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle @ Deans Winter Shelter Tasting, courtesy of Vaiz. Pours a pitch black beer with a thin beige head on top. Aroma of ashes, worchester sauce and some peat. There is also a slight sour note detectable. Flavor is quite sour and possibly infected. There are some characteristics of the real beer shining trough with a big smoky, grainy base, but itís really sad to see this beer go bad.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled from bottle @ Deans Winter Shelter Tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown head. Smell and taste malts, alcohol, smoke, lightly sourish, lightly peat, wood. A bit infected I think.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown almost black with a thin tan, lacy, lasting head. Smells of liquorish, roasted malt, soya sauce, and Worcester sauce. Tastes of peat, sour, Brett, and a bit of roast. But in donít like peat so itís not my thing.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at Deanís Winter Shelter Tasting. Pours dark brown with a ring beige head. Aroma of smoke, caramel, smoked ham. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, moderate bitter and moderate acidic, tart red fruit coming out in the palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not sure the acidity is intended.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Deanís Winter Shelter Tasting @ ABCBeers. Dark brown pour. Aroma of smoked ham, BBQ sauce, rye, chocolate and loads of roasted malts. Flavor is very smokey, but quite sour as well, which I suppose is not supposed to be in there.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL bottle courtesy of Chris, served in a stem glass. Pours black with a small brown head that fades to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of lace. On the nose, there are big oaky rye barrel notes, along with chocolate and molasses. The flavour is moderately sweet, but fairly well balanced with barrel, molasses, chocolate and subtle hops. It finishes with rich, oaky molasses notes. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and average carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice imperial porter with smokey malts. The smoke is somewhat subdued, making for a truly enjoyable experience. 2013-11-22

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Yet another favorite of mine. This one is just plain decadent in every way possible. Oak, massive smoke, bourbon, vanilla, booze. Itís not a írefinedí or subtle beer by any means; itís a foie gras or pork belly kind of pleasure: in your face, bold, boozy, obvious yet complex, and just superlatively delicious on all fronts. It hides the 13% pretty well I must say. One of my favorites by the Bruery, and a beer that proves they can deliver at both ends of the spectrum: subtle, sophisticated belgian styles, and bold American decadent monsters. It is one of the reasons I take the Bruery to be, along Hills Farmstead, at the VERY top of current American breweries.
