COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoked Imperial Rye Porter aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels. A rich porter layered with rye spiciness and earthy smoke, caramel-like flavors, roasty malt and oaky deliciousness.
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in rye whiskey barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile. This is one of our favorite beers at the moment, we hope you agree.

Trade form BoltZ7555. very well rounded beer. it starts out first with a smoke taste and aroma and then dives into a caramel/raisin background and then finished with a little whisky bite. overall damn solid and well balanced

Bottle, thanks to _Angst_, split at Colin and the Vikings tasting, Nol, Goteborg, Sweden 22/03/14. Black with moderate tan spotting/edgework. Nose is big roast and smoke, dark malts, smoked meat, woody, dark chocolate, toffee fudge. Taste comprises charred wood, smoke, chocolate, dark fruits, camp fire, nutty twang, mellow fruit. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet licks in a smoked finale. Solid stuff, very moorish and doesn’t drink like its ABV suggests!

Deep dark brown with a two-finger tan head that left very little lace. Aromas of alcohol, smoke, coffee, roasted malt and a hint of pepper. Porter-like chocolate roasted coffee flavors peek through the heavy whiskey and smoke. Medium to full body, no carbonation, nice creamy mouthfeel, and the smoke lingers too long.

Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, malty and smokey with roasted malts, caramel, smoked sausages, dark chocolate, brown sugar sweetened dark roast coffee, toffee, biscuits, smoke, tar, soot, charred wood, bourbon, alcohol and freshly baked oatmeal cookies. Mouthfeel is soft, round, creamy and full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter, malty and smokey with roasted malts, dark chocolate, brown sugar sweetened dark roast coffee, freshly baked cookies, bourbon, hay, liquorice fudge, vanilla fudge, hay, soil and smoked charcuteries. Really damn good! huge beer but every component balances the other. I’m impressed!

2014.03.06 - The Bruery Smoking Wood - Rye Barrel - 750ml bottle in goblet glass. Presumably 2012 vintage based on when I purchased and the fact that it is 13% abv. Aroma: smoke, basically Appearance: Pours very dark, probably 40+ on SRM scale. Dark porter approaching inky black stout color. Little to no head/carbonation. Taste: Immediate taste is obvious smoke, like you just pulled a smoky brat off the grill. A bit of tang, kind of like steak sauce or Worcestershire sauce. This dissipates pretty quickly and is replaced by a rich complex brew with cocoa, vanilla, a little caramel. It’s pretty similar to something like Bourbon County Stout. Palate/Mouthfeel: 13% and super dark is going to be a little heavy and creamy, and it is. But not as much as you’d expect. Less alcohol warmth than you’d expect. Overall, a little heavy on the smoke but tolerable, then something akin to a less complex Bourbon County Stout. Aroma 7/10, Appearance 4/5, Taste 7/10, Palate 3/5, Overall 16/20
