COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoked Imperial Rye Porter aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels. A rich porter layered with rye spiciness and earthy smoke, caramel-like flavors, roasty malt and oaky deliciousness.
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in rye whiskey barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile. This is one of our favorite beers at the moment, we hope you agree.

Draft at Tap n Handle. Pours black with a light brown head that lingers and laces the glass with rings. Smells smoky, spicy, malty, like whiskey and like wood/campfire. Medium plus body with an oily texture. A smoked and spiced flavor that hides the alcohol well. Toasty and caramel malts with a touch of vanilla balance it out, pretty smooth overall. Of the very few smoked beers I’ve tried, this one is my favorite.

Bottle. Dark brown almost black pour with a small tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is smokey malts, oak, rye whiskey, and a touch of molasses. Flavor is super smokey. Tons of oak, smoked malts, and rye whiskey notes. Abv is very well hidden. Pricey but this was delicious.

Dark black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, licorice, and smoke. The flavor is chocolate, dark fruit, licorice, and some smoke. This is very sweet and boozy over smoky. Palate is thick and boozy. Overall nice beer in small amounts.

This one poured a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of lots of smoke, whiskey, and dark chocolate and roast. Flavor was heavy smoked mats, good but of whiskey and chocolate. Good, but sweeter and hotter than the bourbon one.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a little light brown head. Leaves a wine like residue on the edge of the glass. Smells of dark malts, smoke and whiskey. Tastes of the same. Very good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"It’s really hard to say definitively if this is just shy of the awesomeness of the bourbon smoking wood. I had the tap version of that at a 4.6 and the slightly meatier bottle version a 4.4 or so. This isn’t quite as smooth as the bb version on tap, not as meaty as the bb bottled. Yet another great beer from the Bruery either way. Slight smoke, chocolate, roast, whiskey...very nice."

Bottle at The Bruery tasting at Beer & Beyond shop. Deep brown almost opaque black with a small tan head. Very rich aroma of chocolate, roasted barley, peat, coffee, vanilla, oak, soya and carobs. Taste - sweet, roasty flavors with chocolate, coffee and caramel notes, prunes, licorice, vanilla and smoky undertones, very complex and well balanced. Rather full bodied, syrupy and sticky on palate, smooth mouthfeel. Getting better and interesting while warms up. Can sip this beer all night long. Wow!

WOW!!! That's all I can say! Nice wood aroma...the smell of barrels. I've never had rye whiskey before but this could make me try it. Nice smoky flavor. You can taste the alcohol as you sip. Warms the throat for sure. I'll buy more of this while it's still around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
