Draft at the Provisions room, excellent smoky aroma and nice porter elements of smoked meat and dark chocolate. Hard to drink in quantity, but the flavors are there.

2014.03.06 - The Bruery Smoking Wood - Rye Barrel - 750ml bottle in goblet glass. Presumably 2012 vintage based on when I purchased and the fact that it is 13% abv.
Aroma: smoke, basically
Appearance: Pours very dark, probably 40+ on SRM scale. Dark porter approaching inky black stout color. Little to no head/carbonation.
Taste: Immediate taste is obvious smoke, like you just pulled a smoky brat off the grill. A bit of tang, kind of like steak sauce or Worcestershire sauce. This dissipates pretty quickly and is replaced by a rich complex brew with cocoa, vanilla, a little caramel. It’s pretty similar to something like Bourbon County Stout.
Palate/Mouthfeel: 13% and super dark is going to be a little heavy and creamy, and it is. But not as much as you’d expect. Less alcohol warmth than you’d expect.
Overall, a little heavy on the smoke but tolerable, then something akin to a less complex Bourbon County Stout.

Bottled from New Neer Distributors, NYC. Dark brown colored, small head. Very complex nose, roasted malts, rye, whisky, caramel, wood, vanilla, perhaps some caramel. Pretty sweet flavor, lots of rye and wood, smoke, bitterness. Long lasting finish. Extremely complex yet very well balanced. Absolutely fantastic brew, one of the best i’ve had.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Traded 2011 bottle based on the 10 ABV. Nice dark brown pour with a big brown head that dissipates quickly. Big aroma of barbecue smoke and sweet, caramel malt. The flavor is nice because you can still taste the chocolately base porter but the smoke shows up too. The rye just leaves a little spice in the finish. Very nicely done.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of rye whiskey, oak, spices, chocolate and roasted malts, and light dough. Flavor the same with the rye whiskey and dark and smoked malts blending well. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer, but the bourbon one is better.
