COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoked Imperial Rye Porter aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels. A rich porter layered with rye spiciness and earthy smoke, caramel-like flavors, roasty malt and oaky deliciousness.
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in rye whiskey barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile. This is one of our favorite beers at the moment, we hope you agree.

On tap @ Max’s. Now this is my kind of beer! Near black with a good amount of tan head. Big time rye spice in the nose, oak, whiskey, dark fruit, smoke. Crazy complex. ABV there but not overpowering - got more intense as it warmed. Flavors of BBQ, rye, caramel, whiskey. Love it!

As with many of these high alcohol high power beers they get better as you drink them. Great aroma. Sweet whiskey vanilla and a bit of smoke and chocolate. Flavor is smokey vanilla big whiskey. Barrel and prunes. Pretty fantastic. Somewhere in there while it is swirling around in your mouth a faint moldy ash. The alcohol is really in your face and makes you feel like your in a western movie sitting at a card table. Then bam!!That amazing aroma hits you again. Smooth creamy mouth feel. An earthy peat finish. Beers like this is why people go black beer and never look back.Straight forward four note beer. This beer don’t mess around it gets right to the point. Rye Whiskey! An amazing beer!

Pours dark brownish black with a tan head of foam. Aroma is big time smokey roast, chocolate, and whiskey. Taste is chocolate and malt followed by smoke, roast, and heat from the rye whiskey. Finishes with a spicy chocolate booze element. Very well done.

2013-05-08. Very dark brown black body small tan head. 3+ Modest smokey aroma, nice sweet malty core. Flavour is similar, rich sweet malty base, modesty smokey overtones throughout. Light toasty biscuity accents. Whispers of barrel. 7++ Smooth medium to full bodied palate, soft carbonation. 3++ Surprisingly good, very well balanced for a beer with barrel and smoke characteristics! Bottle shared by mds

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head that left nice lacing. Aroma of rye whisky, chocolate, smoke, oak and vanilla. Flavor was deep and rich with smoked meats, chocolate, sweet roasted malts, oaky vanilla, whisky, and some molasses. Excellent smoked beer

This is a beer that marries perfect with a cigar. Which makes it my kind of beer. Dark brown to black in color with a small coco head. Aroma is rich full of smoke, whiskey and caramel. Flavor is great sweet but not to sweet, smoke, caramel and a little alcohol. Note a lot of sludge in bottle be careful pouring lol. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an opaque brownish black from the bottle with thin tan lacy head that sticks moderately. Aroma is whiskey barrel vanilla notes, rye spice in the middle, and a nice smoky back end. Taste follows, crisp and clean with a great balance but still thick on the mouth. This is fantastic!

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a hazy brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was of roasted maltiness and lightly smoked. The taste was of caramels, smokey and bready. Very well done.

Great smoky flavor but this beer isn’t a round one, it is blunt, lacking in complexity.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a small foamy tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, wood smoke, caramel, light char, vanilla, toast, oak, whiskey, light spicy rye, and toffee. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of roasted malt notes with smoked malt and barrel character. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, wood smoke, caramel, toast, oak, whiskey, vanilla, light spicy rye, and toffee. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, wood smoke, caramel, toast, oak, whiskey, vanilla, and toffee on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity of roasted, smoked, and barrel flavors; with an awesome balance of barrel character that isn’t overwhelming; and no cloying flavors present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full bodied; with a slick, creamy, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Definitely a slow sipper. Overall this is an incredible imperial smoked porter style! Incredible depth and complexity of flavor with great balance of the barrel, smoke, and roasted flavors; and quite smooth to sip on a slowly. A highly enjoyable offering.
