Ever accidentally blend two brews, curse a bit, and then smile when tasting the excellent result? Us too. Smooth Criminal is the splendid result of moving a bit too quickly in the brewhouse. An accidental addition of Saison De Lente to a fermenter full of our anniversary ale led us to ask "Anni, are you okay?" She was. Smooth Criminal showcases rich malt, flavorful hops, and oaky goodness in a harmoniously unique ale.

750mL bottle, pours a filthy dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is hugely malty, with loads of bourbon barrels and caramel. Flavour is similar, with highly sweet caramel and bourbon barrels that accentuate everything. Fairly yeasty as well which muddies things up a bit. Good, but needs some refining.

Bottle - Caramel and tons boozy notes with some coconut. Hazy gold with a decent beige head. Butterscotch, stone fruit and booze. Not bad, but a bit too much booze.

Bottle share @ Cycle, St. Pete.

Pours a hazy brown from the bottle with thin ring of tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma is big dark fruit and caramel sweetness with big notes of bourbon. Taste follows, saison is definitely hidden but a great happy accident overall. Glad to have shared it and not taken the whole thing solo.

750 ml bottle from the RS. No head on a market brown liquid. Aroma is bourbon soaked raisins, English malts, caramel drenched figs and vanilla.

The flavor is mild oak, very smooth bourbon, light toasted malts, deep dark fruits tones and plenty of lingering bourbon. This has a very mild bourbon warming sensation after the sip but no where near what you would think for a 15 % brew. Very smooth, body is on the fuller side, no sticky sweetness. Jeez, this is good!

From notes. This was shared at a tasting put on by @mikem409 on November 7. The pour is a really dark orange, almost a bit brown with a khaki head that falls down to a good collar pretty quickly. The aroma is good, but a bit strange. There is a lot of bourbon on the immediate nose, and it rolls through a solid malt phase. There is some dark fruits and maybe a little caramel. There is a little citrus that doesn’t seem to belong on the back end, which I think comes from the blend. The flavor is a little more musty and funky. There is a light breadiness behind the dark fruits and bourbon heaviness. Licorice is also a little more prevalent here with the caramel. The mouth feel is pretty thin for a good old ale. It’s not quite watery, but is far from viscous. It does cling lightly to the mouth. The aftertaste is sweet and strangely fruity. Not really my thing, but I’m glad I got to try it

Bottle: Hazed, deep brown pour with a dark khaki head that almost fizzes its way down to a foamy collar. The nose has notes of coconut, molasses, bourbon, wood, prunes, & toffee candies. A little bit of damp mustiness & maybe a slight hint of tropical pineapple is the only sign of saison in the aroma... Mostly old ale. Saison De Lente shows up a bit more in the flavor... Light farmhouse yeast, musty earth, & mild breadiness, however this beer is still dominated by the old ale. Heavy bourbon soaked wood, prunes, tart redcurrant, vanillin, anise, licorice, & hefty caramel sweetness. A touch of apple, must, & boozy wood in the finish. Sticky mouth feel. Not bad, but kind of messy. Would rather just have a saison or an old ale, straight up,

Bottle. Pour is hazy orange minimal head. Aroma of burnt sugar and citrus. Taste was sweet and abv is hidden well, lots of toffee and oak.
