This American Wild Rye Ale was brewed with a substantial portion of rye malt, and the spicy character of the grain asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor. Add in sour cherry notes from our special blend of micro-organisms and vanilla from the red wine barrels and you’ve got a mouthful!
ABV varies from year to year.
2010: 10% ABV.
2011: 8.7% ABV.
2012: 8.8% ABV.
2013: 7.8% ABV.
2014: 7.6% ABV.

2012, almost exactly a year old now. Pungent, intensely flavored nose & palate start to finish. Rye grain has faded (thankfully!), replaced by soured yeast and malts. Damn, this has turned into a fantastic American sour.

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Bottle is dated 112312 Lot 55, and is 7.8% abv. Looks good; a fairly transparent amberish-orange with white lacing. Smells and tastes tart, oaky, and funky with some clove. Pleasant on the palate. Good beer!

Pours hazy cloudy light brown with a thick off white head. Nose is hay, spice, soil, barnyard funk, lemons and vinegar. The taste is sweet up front massive tart in the back. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, the body is light and the finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cloudy brown. Ping hues. 2 finger off white head Some lactic acid, vinegar and smoke Sweet at the start. Fruit some vinegar and a bit of Flanders red cherry notes. Not a lot of rye except for a hint st the finish

Cloudy brown beer, thin white head. Crispy dry palate. Sour - bordering on vinegary. Duchesse Du Bourgogne like tart fruit. A little rye spice and a whisper of oak. Finishes sour and dry. Okay.

In short: A surprisingly drinkable and not-too-sour semi-farmhouse ale with a nice fruity-apricots flavor. Excellent.
How: Bottle 750ml. 2011 vintage, so probably around 1 year of age, split three-way. Bottle sent to me by kegbear, thanks a lot Craig.
The look: Cloudy dark orange body topped by a small white head.
In long: Nose is surprisingly fruity with bright apricots, musty notes, pleasant farmhouse character. Taste is surprising, upfront there is a lot of fresh juicy apricots although this beer supposedly does not use fruits, some peaches, a malt backbone that really felt like cookies, plenty of virgin oak, medium rye presence, sawdust, nice semi-wild sensation that feels more pedio than bretty, moderate lactic acid sensation, sour level is pretty low for the style. This was surprisingly drinkable for the style, this beer is as ‘sessionnable’ as a Sour Ale can be. Bruery beers are often so-so but once in a while I stumble on a little gem like this Sour in the Rye, so as the old saying goes: you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince (or become sexually attracted to frogs and your family forces you to seek professional help).

750 ml bottle thanks to BlackIPA. Pours a hazy caramel color. The aroma has lemons, cheesy funk , sweet and spicy. Some vanilla is noticeable and it’s a little harsh. The taste has vinegar, fruit, and lemons. Another Bruery sour and it’s another vinegar bomb. WTF is up with they’re sours and how does nobody not know better. The Bruery should get in the salad dressing business as well. My review may even be too nice.

Bottle from a trade with peteinSD. 2011 vintage. Pours hazy golden orange color with white head. Acetic aroma with some spices. Sour cherry flavor with some rye. Quite sour. Medium body with lively carbonation. Very nice. Thanks Peter.
