This American Wild Rye Ale was brewed with a substantial portion of rye malt, and the spicy character of the grain asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor. Add in sour cherry notes from our special blend of micro-organisms and vanilla from the red wine barrels and you’ve got a mouthful!

A solid sour rye ale, very drinkable.Tasty, though too much cloves and pepper for me.

Bottle thanks to mrebeks for sharing. Aromas are barnyard funk, sour overripe cherries and lemons, hay, and vinegar. Taste is extremely sour and acidic. Loaded with sour fruit, barnyard funk, vinegar, green apple, and oak. This is a big sour and it’s too much for me. I’d probably like the fruited versions better.

Bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours a hazy amber with only a hint of cream colored head. Aroma of sour and funk and citrus. Taste of lemons and funk. Makes me think of the Crybaby candies.

Shared with bmillsy. Pretty orange pour, little cloudy thin white lacing. Mandarin orange and tart cherry aroma. Light body, well carbonated. Lemon, cherry, tart goodness. This is a great sour that makes me want to pucker my lips and kiss its creator. Thank you for removing that pesky enamel from my teeth.

Tap @ Roberta's. Pours a reddish orange with a very thin crisp white head. Aroma is hay, barnyard funk, rye, lemon, vinegar. Taste is very sour right off the bat, vinegar, tart, sour citrus... Sharp up front, stays biting through to finish but still quite drinkable. Really nice sour

Bottle from Tipples. Pours a nearly clear dark orange color with a one finger off white head. Sour lacto dominates the nose with some apricot, peach, and a little white vinegar. Not the peach version but still has some of those notes. Really nice. Flavor is a nice crisp sour green apple, with plenty of lacto and big acidity. Some light fruits and a hint of spice in there dancing around, and a clean dry finish. Light to medium mouthfeel with effervescent carbonation. Really awesome sour here.

Great example of a sour. Hits you hard up front but then very drinkable and sour throughout. Yes, somewhat barnyardy but in that good sour way.

My first american sour. I do not know why folks think this is so great. It tasted like a dirty sock, essence of barn and the mold growing on the spaghetti in my fridge. If you didn’t tell me this beer was supposed to taste like this I would have returned it! On the plus side there is a solid woody flavor which grounds it in its wildness. The hops add some bitter and fruit. And the tartness is muted and rounded which is a nice change from the sharp tartness of the other wild/sour beers I’ve had.

Bottled, 2013 version. 20cl sample. Thanks Caesar. The aroma, has citrus, cherry pits, caramel malt and rye, tartness, some oak, wine. Hazy, golden coloured beer with a thin head. The taste has citric sourness, tartness, a bit lacto, wine, cherries. Nice balanced. Wonderful.
