The aroma is strongly funky and complex. Wild animals and vinegar and cheese are up front with hints at fruits, oak, champagne and rye. Using rye in a sour is so smart. The bold and clean funky, sourness blends perfectly with the rye-tartness. To say this is a dry beer is an understatement. There are hints of fruit, flowers, oak to back up the vinegar and barnyard flavor. This is a legit, top-notch sour.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Visual: Pours extremely cloudy orange/brown with no head, soda-like fizzy activity, big bubbles, lots of fast streams. (Unfiltered, bottle-conditioned).
Nose: Sour apple cider-peach, noticeable funk/puke. (6/10-pungency)
Attack: intense puckery sourness
Mid-palate: (10/10)-acidic sourness, (6/10)-fruity sweetness, (MAIN) oaked apple cider, pukey aftertaste + sourness, sour malt
Finish: lingering astringent sourness, tangy sour finish.
Summary: Not for those who have bad memories of late night drinking games and mornings spent waking up hugging the toilet. Lots of sourness and puke when sipping by itself, but quite effective in refreshing the palate when paired with heavy BBQ’d food. Hard to finish when it warms up.

I am biased as this is my mommas milk but man this is a great beer. Tastes like apple jolly rancher. The bottled version definitely is more sour than on draft.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at The Beer Authority in Seattle. One of the best beers of my trip home, so much so that my brother and I came back the next day to get some more. Darker grainy brown with small, firm white head. Fantastic tart, ripe fruit. Peachy brown. Fantastic, smooth, lingering sour tartness. No funk, just full round juicy sour. Puckering. By far the best sour I’ve had in awhile.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a cloudy orange with an off white head in a snifter.
Pretty standard aroma for a sour. Not much rye, little bit of brett.
Tartness hits first, with the rye following a close second. Definitely some peppery funkiness in there. Tasty.
Nice and carbonated which is how I like a sour.
Delicious sour. Different and complex, but very well done.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at craft ale house. Pours hazy orange with light coming through. The aroma has tons of tartness, vinegar, very funky, some fruitiness, light spicy grain. The taste is quite tart, some apricot fruit, maybe a slight cherry, but a killer blend. So undefined that I love it more.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2013 7.8% release.
Appearance: The body has a reddish-amber tint with a velvety haze. The head is dense and neat with a light tan hue and good retention.
Aroma: The aroma is sour cherry and red wine vinegar primarily with a mild backing of sweetness hinting at caramel and vanilla with a hint of spicy rye. What a beautiful aroma with good strength.
Taste: Oh wow, what a beautiful sour. The intro is mild with hints of sweetness that picks up with a mild rye spice that underlies a sour cherry prominent flavor with hints of red wine vinegar and tannins. The finish is a bit mild with hints of oak, but with still a moderate sourness. The finish lingers of sour, but nothing puckering. Well done.
Palate: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This is a ridiculously good sour ale that I can undertake easily by myself. The sourness is blended in incredibly nicely with the rest of the beer, adding a depth that makes this enjoyable for much more than just the sourness of it. Well done.

Bought at Brawley’s after a Founder’s barrel beer and 5 course food pairing. Consumed at Crompt’s while turning over the soil at Crompt’s house and getting blisters on our smooth girly hands. Sooooo good. You don’t even know. His garden turned out great only because of this beer.
